Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Inc. saw its shares skyrocket nearly 20% on Wednesday, November 8, driven by the company's unveiling of its first AI-powered P7+ sedan with a competitive starting price of 186,800 yuan ($26,134).
Xpeng's launch of the P7+, coming a day after showcasing its new extended-range hybrid technology, is seen as a strategic pivot to more cost-competitive products beyond pure electric vehicles. Analysts believe this shift could significantly boost Xpeng's sales by tapping into broader consumer demand.
Nomura analysts noted that Xpeng is at the forefront of AI-related auto technologies like smart driving and robotics, positioning the company to deliver robust growth fueled by innovative offerings like the P7+. They added that if the sedan's pricing comes in around 185,000 yuan or lower, Xpeng could be poised for "a strong wave of demand."
