Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that Coca-Cola has consented to reformulate its beverages for the American market by switching to cane sugar. "After my persistent negotiations with Coca-Cola regarding using real cane sugar in American versions, they've agreed," Trump stated, extending gratitude to the company's leadership.
A Coca-Cola spokesperson confirmed upcoming details about the new product while acknowledging Trump's enthusiasm for their offerings. Currently, U.S.-distributed Coca-Cola utilizes high-fructose corn syrup as its primary sweetener, contrasting with cane sugar formulations in select international markets.
This development aligns with Trump's "Make America Healthy Again" (MAHA) initiative, which shares its name with a social movement championed by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The campaign has already prompted several food manufacturers to eliminate artificial colors and modify ingredients. In May, the MAHA advisory committee—convened by Trump to investigate chronic disease origins—published findings suggesting significant high-fructose corn syrup consumption may correlate with childhood obesity and other health concerns.
