Shares of Hengrui Pharma (ASX: 01276) surged more than 6% during the trading session. At the time of writing, the stock was up 3.54% to HKD 59.9, with a turnover of HKD 136 million.
The recent price movement follows news that the National Medical Products Administration has approved a new indication for the company's self-developed PD-L1 inhibitor, Aireli (adebelimab injection). The approval is for use in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy as a neoadjuvant treatment, followed by continued use as a monotherapy for adjuvant treatment. This is for adult patients with resectable stage II, IIIA, and IIIB non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have no known EGFR mutations or ALK rearrangements.
Analysts from Southwest Securities believe this approval enhances the company's product portfolio in the lung cancer field, providing coverage across the entire treatment journey alongside its existing late-stage indications. They also noted the potential for synergy with the company's self-developed ADC and other technology platforms, which could unlock incremental value through coordinated perioperative and metastatic treatment strategies.
Guotou Securities previously highlighted that since 2023, Hengrui Pharma has achieved significant results in overseas business development and collaboration for its innovative drugs. The company has entered into multiple agreements with several multinational corporations and biotech firms, with a total potential transaction value exceeding USD 30 billion. The firm's overseas partnerships are continuing to deliver, with potential for future sales royalties from multiple drug candidates in addition to collaboration milestones. The brokerage suggests that the company's market valuation could be reshaped as its internationalization strategy progresses successfully, making subsequent developments highly anticipated.
