[Click to register] ZEC led gains among major tokens, while South Korean chipmakers ended a five-day losing streak ahead of Thursday's U.S. inflation data. As of early Wednesday in Asia, Bitcoin rose 1.5% to just below $83,900. New York Fed President John Williams said he sees no need for further rate hikes in 2027, which weakened the dollar and boosted Asian stock markets.
ZEC led mainstream coins, jumping nearly 7% to around $1,270. SOL and DOGE each gained 2.5%, while Ether rose 2% to around $2,520. According to data, XRP, BNB, and HYPE rose 1% to 2%, while TRX lagged with gains of less than 1%.
Williams did say that one more rate hike this year could be appropriate. His remarks still helped the S&P 500 narrow its decline on Tuesday, with S&P 500 futures up 0.2%, as the index hovered near last week's record.
Chipmakers rebounded in Asia. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both rose, ending a five-day losing streak. Earlier this week, that slide had wiped out leveraged bets on chip stocks in crypto exchanges. The MSCI Asia-Pacific index rose 0.7%, rebounding from the previous two days of declines after falling to its lowest close since August. Chip equipment maker ASML reports earnings on Wednesday, and TSMC on Thursday.
Oil prices continued to climb. Brent crude rose 0.7% to about $106 per barrel, as a surge in attacks in the Middle East cast doubt on the resumption of energy shipments through the Persian Gulf. U.S. crude rose for a fifth consecutive day. Thursday's U.S. inflation report is the next test for Williams' view. If the data is mild enough to rule out a final rate hike, it would give Bitcoin room to retest $85,000.
