Yichang Three Gorges Port Railway Project Enters New Phase with Bridge Substructure Completion

Deep News2025-12-25

The Yichang Three Gorges Port Railway project, constructed by China Communications Construction Company First Public Works Group, has entered a new stage of development. This milestone follows the recent completion of concrete pouring for the No. 3 Jinjiawan Bridge, marking the full conclusion of the substructure work for all bridges along the route. This achievement establishes a solid foundation for the subsequent phases of girder erection and bridge deck system construction.

The project involves the construction of a railway line stretching 11.99 kilometers in total length. The scope of work includes eight bridges, three tunnels, and one station yard, with bridges and tunnels accounting for 86% of the entire route. The bridge engineering segment alone spans approximately 3.73 kilometers and crosses over existing railways and rivers at multiple points. It comprises 801 piles, 120 pile caps, 105 piers, 119 coping beams, and 16 abutments.

During the construction period, the project team faced significant challenges, including complex geological conditions, a wide range of work sites, and the considerable difficulty of working adjacent to operational railway lines. To overcome these obstacles, the team engaged in extensive consultations and repeated coordination with the project owner and relevant railway authorities. These efforts were focused on securing substantial progress in the approval of various required permits.

The team adopted a "seize every opportunity and stagger peak construction" approach. They optimized the construction plan by fully utilizing designated railway "maintenance windows" to minimize impact on nightly railway inspections. This strategy allowed them to efficiently manage time and space within fragmented work areas, ensuring rapid project advancement.

The Yichang Three Gorges Port Railway is a critical transportation infrastructure project. It is designed to enhance the comprehensive transportation system of the Yangtze River Three Gorges area, establish a water-rail intermodal system for the Three Gorges logistics hub, and extend the coverage of the national railway network. Upon completion, the project will effectively expand the reach of the national rail network and holds significant political and economic importance for alleviating bottlenecks in Yangtze River shipping.
