Precious Metals Rally Across the Board, Spot Silver Surpasses $83 with Nearly 5% Daily Surge

Deep News2025-12-29

On Monday, the precious metals market displayed a broad-based upward trend, with spot silver leading the gains, while industrial metals and energy markets also advanced. Silver continued its sharp ascent on Monday, with spot silver hitting an intraday high of $83.23 per ounce, marking a 4.9% increase, before retreating to $82.13 per ounce.

Gold also extended its gains, with spot gold rising as much as 0.2% to $4,543 per ounce, currently experiencing a slight pullback, while platinum prices increased by 2.48% to $2,553 per ounce.

Industrial metals and energy markets similarly recorded increases, with copper prices continuing their climb to $12,133, and WTI crude oil rebounding, up 0.79% to $57.19.

Beyond traditional tailwinds such as expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate cuts and central bank gold purchases, the market is beginning to price in a new narrative—"commodity control." Goldman Sachs posits that metals are not merely cyclical assets but strategic assets. This shift in positioning reflects the increasing weight of geopolitical and supply chain security factors in commodity pricing. The year-to-date returns for precious metals have actually outperformed the S&P 500 index, a performance that is attracting inflows from capital concerned about technology stock valuations. Some investors are viewing precious metals as the ultimate tool for hedging against the risks of an "AI bubble," driving a transfer of funds from the equity market to the commodity market.
