HSBC executes additional 1.72 million-share buyback on 12 Aug; cumulative repurchases reach 4.68 million since May mandate

Bulletin Express08-13

HSBC Holdings plc reported that it repurchased 1.72 million ordinary shares on 12 August 2026 across UK and Hong Kong markets under its current share-buyback authority granted on 8 May 2026. The transactions have not yet been cancelled and therefore do not change the company’s issued share count, which remains at 17.18 billion shares.

UK venues • Shares bought: 1.37 million • Price range: GBP 15.198 – 15.366 per share • Aggregate consideration: GBP 20.95 million • Trading platforms: London Stock Exchange, CBOE Europe (CXE and BXE), Turquoise and Aquis

Hong Kong Stock Exchange • Shares bought: 345,600 • Price range: HKD 160.7 – 161.9 per share • Aggregate consideration: HKD 55.72 million

Pending cancellations Including these latest purchases, a total of 4.68 million shares (2.71 million in the UK and 1.97 million in Hong Kong) are awaiting cancellation. This represents approximately 0.0272 % of HSBC’s issued shares.

Buyback capacity The shareholder mandate authorises the repurchase of up to 1.72 billion shares before the 2027 AGM or 30 June 2027, whichever is earlier. After the latest transactions, repurchased shares equal roughly 0.27 % of the authorised limit.

Moratorium In line with Hong Kong listing rules, HSBC is subject to a 30-day moratorium—up to 11 September 2026—on issuing new shares or disposing of treasury shares following these repurchases, except for issuances of contingent convertible securities approved by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 11 February and 13 July 2026.
