U.S. Stocks Open Significantly Lower; Big Tech Stocks Plunge

US stocks cratered Thursday after President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs of at least 10% and even higher for some countries, raising the risks of a global trade war that hits the already sputtering U.S. economy.

The S&P 500 dropped 3.4%, putting it on track for tis worst day since September 2022. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 1,200 points, or more than 2%. The Nasdaq Composite slid 3.8%.

Big tech stocks sank in morning trading. Apple fell 8%; Amazon and Meta fell 7%; Nvidia and Tesla fell 6%; Alphabet fell 4%; Microsoft fell 2%.
