Turkey - Factors to Watch on Feb 9

ISTANBUL, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday.

The lira stood at 7.0700 against the U.S. dollar at 0425 GMT, weakening slightly from a close of 7.0660 on Monday.

The main BIST 100 share index rose 0.51% to 1,534.91 on Monday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian stock markets rose on Tuesday after a record-setting day on Wall Street, while Bitcoin paused for breath after an overnight endorsement from Tesla Inc sent the cryptocurrency up 20%. Oil also hit 13-month highs, helped by rising optimism about a return in fuel demand.

ERDOGAN-MERKEL CALL

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in a video conference with her Turkish counterpart President Tayyip Erdogan, welcomed recent positive developments in the eastern Mediterranean, Germany said in a statement on Monday.

ERDOGAN PROGRAMME

President Erdogan will participate in a swearing-in ceremony for new constitutional court member Irfan Fidan (0830 GMT). He will also chair a meeting of his AK Party's central executive committee (1200 GMT) and attend a meeting to publicise the country's national space programme (1600 GMT).

PARLIAMENTARY MEETINGS

The main opposition CHP (1030 GMT), the AKP's nationalist allies the MHP (0745 GMT), and the opposition IYI Party (0645 GMT) will all hold group meetings in parliament.

TREASURY ISSUES LEASE CERTIFICATES

The Treasury will issue to banks through the direct sale method lira-denominated two-year fixed rent lease certificates, with bids sought by 2 pm (1100 GMT).

FOREIGN MINISTER

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu visits Kuwait.

CORONAVIRUS

Turkey recorded 103 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to government data on Monday, bringing the total death toll to 26,900. It also reported 8,103 new coronavirus cases, with the total number of cases rising to 2,539,559.

Turkey has vaccinated 2.69 million people since it began on Jan. 14 the nationwide rollout of COVID-19 shots developed by China's Sinovac Biotech Ltd , health ministry data showed.
