NIO ET7 Sets Sail for Europe

Pandaily2022-08-22

On August 22, Chinese new energy vehicle company NIO announced that its ET7 – the brand’s first smart electric flagship sedan – has set sail from a local port bound for Europe. The ET7s will be available for order and delivery this year in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden.

As NIO‘s smart electric flagship sedan, the ET7 obtained the European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EWVTA) in April, 2022, and will now become the second smart electric model NIO is introducing to European users following delivery of the ES8 in Norway last year.

The NIO ET7 was released in China in January 2021, and the deliveries started in March 2022. There are currently three versions of the model on sale, with a price range of 458,000-536,000 yuan ($67,056 – $78,476). The car is based on the second-generation high-efficiency electric drive platform. The firm is expected to launch a version equipped with a 150kWh solid-state battery pack in the fourth quarter of 2022, with a cruising range of up to 1,000 km. In addition, the new version of model has second-generation digital cockpit technology, lidar, and air suspension.

NIO is expanding its footprint in the European market. On July 29, the company announced that it will invest in the construction of its first overseas factory in Hungary, which will be put into operation in September of this year.

The project is located in Biotorbagy, Pest, Hungary. It covers an area of about 10,000 square meters and is mainly used to produce battery swapping stations that provide battery replacement services for electric vehicles. It will become the main manufacturing center, service center and R&D center for NIO products in Europe.

On August 15, NIO’s second charging and swapping station in Norway was officially launched at 1,1540 Vestby in Svarthagsveien. It previously stated that the firm will build 20 second-generation power stations in Norway by the end of 2022, covering Norway’s top five cities and major expressways. The first such station in Norway was put into operation at the end of October 2021.
