Market Chatter: Jeju Air Shares Plunge to Lowest on Record After Muan Airport Crash

MT Newswires Live2024-12-30

Shares of Jeju Air (KRX:089590) declined nearly 9% to close Monday's trade at 7,500 won, after plunging as much as 15.7% earlier in the session to hit 6,920 won, in the aftermath of a deadly plane crash at the Muan International Airport on Sunday that killed 179 people.

The 6,920-won-figure marked the lowest since the airline listed its shares in 2015, Reuters reported Monday.

The Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 crash-landed at the Muan International Airport, killing 179 of the 181 people onboard. Only two cabin crew members survived the crash after the plane skidded off the runway and struck a wall, BBC reported Sunday.

Flight 2216, returning from Bangkok, carried six crew members and 175 passengers, mostly holidaymakers. Authorities are investigating potential causes behind the tragedy, the report said.
