Insider Stock Buying Reaches US$508.4k On OncoCyte

Simply Wall St.01-31

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of OncoCyte Corporation (NASDAQ:OCX), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At OncoCyte

The insider Patrick Smith made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$192k worth of shares at a price of US$2.13 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$2.01. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

OncoCyte insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. Their average price was about US$2.42. I'd consider this a positive as it suggests insiders see value at around the current price. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. The recent insider purchases are heartening. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses.
