President Donald Trump is likely to extend a pause on tariffs to products beyond the auto industry, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Thursday.
A day after the Trump administration gave auto makers a one-month reprieve from 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, Lutnick said in a CNBC interview that a similar pause will likely "cover all USMCA-compliant goods and services."
USMCA is the acronym for the trade agreement Trump negotiated with Canada and Mexico during his first term.
Lutnick said in the interview that an announcement could come today. The pause would be until April 2, when the administration is expected to reveal its reciprocal tariffs on goods imported from nations that put duties on goods from the U.S.
