U.K. House Prices Rise But Housing Market on Hold Until Budget -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2025-11-07

0938 GMT - Although U.K. house prices rose in October according to the Halifax house Price index, several metrics suggest the housing market is on hold until the budget is announced on Nov. 26, RBC Capital Markets analysts say. House prices in October rose on average 0.6%, or 1,647 pounds, to give an average house price of 299,862 pounds, according to Halifax. But house prices are the least of a housebuilders' concerns, the analysts say. They point out that buyers are currently sitting on their hands as the forthcoming budget doesn't leave much of the year to play with, and a flurry of bulk deals could take place as 2025 draws to a close. MJ Gleeson shares are down 0.9%, followed by Bellway and Taylor Wimpey, down 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively. (anthony.orunagoriainoff@dowjones.com)
