General Motors (GM) and auto regulators in the United States are investigating the crash of a GMC Sierra pickup truck that injured a passenger after its airbag ruptured, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The report said that the pickup truck originally used airbags manufactured by Takata, a now-defunct entity. Millions of automobiles equipped with these airbags have been recalled, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has confirmed that Takata airbag explosions have resulted in 28 deaths in the country, the report said.
Investigators have not confirmed if the GMC Sierra pickup truck's airbags, which are being probed, were made by Takata, the report said.
General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
