Equinor Challenges US Order Suspending Lease for New York Wind Project

MT Newswires Live01-03

Equinor (EQNR) said Friday it has filed a preliminary injunction against a lease suspension order for its Empire Wind project off the coast of New York.

The Norwegian energy group said its special-purpose entity, Empire Offshore Wind, filed a civil suit in the District of Columbia court challenging an order from the US Department of the Interior.

The company is seeking to allow construction to continue while the litigation proceeds.

The electricity project, which is more than 60% complete, is being developed under contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

It is expected to power around 500,000 homes in New York upon completion, the company added.

Equinor shares rose around 3.7% in recent trading.
