ASX Preview: Australian Shares Set to Rise Ahead of Spending Data; Aristocrat Says Light & Wonder Agrees to Pay About AU$190 Million Compensation to Settle Litigation

MT Newswires Live01-12

Australian shares are poised to rise on Monday ahead of November household spending data, which will aid policymakers' interest-rate decisions for the year.

On Jan. 9, the Nasdaq Composite, the S&P 500, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.8%, 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively.

The spending report is due at 11:30 am Sydney time.

In corporate news, Aristocrat Leisure (ASX:ALL) said that Light & Wonder (ASX:LNW) agreed to compensate the company for around AU$190 million to settle the pending litigation between the parties, regarding the company's claims related to alleged misappropriation and infringement of its intellectual property.

Capstone Copper (ASX:CSC) said that it expects to continue operations at the Mantoverde mine in Chile at up to 30% of normal production, following the Jan. 2 strike by a union representing 50% of the mine's employees.

Australia's benchmark index fell 0.1% or 10.8 points to close at 8,717.8 on Jan.9.
