Meta Platforms (META) and TerraPower announced on Friday that the companies have agreed to develop up to eight Natrium advanced nuclear reactor and energy storage plants in the US.
Under the agreement, Meta Platforms will provide funding to support the deployment of the plants with the delivery of initial units targeted in 2032, the companies said.
The new infrastructure will provide up to 2.8 gigawatts of baseload energy with the capacity to increase output to as much as 4 gigawatts through integrated energy storage, according to the companies.
The agreement supports the early development of two new units and provides Meta Platforms with the right to energy from up to six additional units, the companies said.
Meta Platforms and TerraPower said they expect to identify a specific site for an initial dual-reactor unit in the coming months.
