ANZ Group Holdings (ASX:ANZ) has confirmed that 197 Suncorp Bank roles are being impacted, with 66 staff expected to lose their jobs, which contradicts the commitments made to workers and communities when the sale was approved, said Australia's Finance Sector Union in a Thursday statement.
The union has called on the Federal Government to intervene in the matter, as according to the union, ANZ gave "clear undertakings" that for three years there would be no regional ANZ or Suncorp bank closures, no changes to the number of Suncorp branches in Queensland, and no net job losses across Australia caused by the acquisition.
"ANZ is firmly committed to meeting our commitments to the Federal and Queensland Governments, including maintaining regional branch numbers throughout Australia and no net job losses in Australia as a direct result of the acquisition," said an ANZ spokesperson in a response to MT Newswires' request for comment.
The bank's Australian shares were up 1% in recent Thursday trade.
