European gas prices surged by more than 25% on Thursday after Iranian strikes caused extensive damage to Qatar's Ras Laffan, the site of the world's largest liquefied natural gas plant.
Impairment to the facility-which produces up to a fifth of the global LNG supply-carries profound implications for global energy markets. Depending on the extent of the damage, it could significantly exacerbate a crisis that began earlier this month when an initial Iranian drone attack forced state-run QatarEnergy to halt its operations.
