Posco Future M's Cathode Business Could Post Loss for 2026 -- Market Talk
Dow Jones03-20 12:46
0446 GMT - Posco Future M's cathode business could post an operating loss this year on flat shipments, Nomura's Cindy Park and Dongmin Lee say. The analysts expect the cathode plant utilization rate to remain below 30% at the South Korean battery-material producer in 2026. They slash their 2026 net profit forecast for the company by 70% to 37 billion won to reflect weaker shipments and higher fixed costs. Still, Posco Future M's anode business is better positioned as a rare non-Chinese player in the China-dominated anode market, they add, citing its recent 1 trillion won contract win to supply synthetic graphite anode materials to a global carmaker for 2027-2032.(kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
