Consumer companies fell after another round of dire housing market data.
New home sales plunged almost 18% to 587,000 in January, the latest sign that stubbornly high prices and elevated mortgage rates are keeping buyers on the sidelines.
Mortgage rates are set to rise further following the Federal Reserve's warning that rates will be on hold until the implications of an oil shock are clearer.
