President Trump defended a multibillion-dollar spending request to pay for the war in Iran, saying the money would do more than fund the current operations.
"We're asking for a lot of reasons, beyond even what we're talking about in Iran," Trump said when asked about a reported $200 billion request during an Oval Office meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. "This a very volatile world, and the military equipment, the power of some of this weaponry, is unthinkable. You don't even want to know about, oh, you could end this thing in two seconds if you wanted to. But we are, we are being very judicious."
Trump said he wants to ensure the military has "vast amounts of ammunition."
"We're in very good shape, but we want to be in the best shape, the best shape we've ever been in," he said.
