EU Leaders Condemn Iranian Strikes Against Neighbors -- WSJ

Dow Jones03-20 06:51

By Laurence Norman

European Union leaders condemned Iran's "indiscriminate" strikes against other countries in the Middle East and called on Tehran to immediately halt its attacks.

In a statement after a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels, the bloc said the "developments in Iran and the wider region threaten regional and global security" and urged countries to abide by international law.

There was no move by EU leaders to task the bloc's naval mission in the Red Sea to help secure safe passage in the Straits of Hormuz. Iran has essentially closed the strait, a narrow waterway through which about 20% of the world's oil typically flows, with attacks on commercial traffic.
