The British Defense Ministry says it has sent planners to U.S. Central Command, which is headquartered in Tampa, Fla., to develop options to establish security in the Strait of Hormuz. Though President Trump has criticized U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not doing enough to support his military campaign against Iran, Britain has enabled U.S. military efforts in some significant ways.
U.S. B-1 and B-52 bombers have been carrying out attacks against Iranian targets from the Royal Air Force Fairford base in England. And British Typhoon and F-35 planes have been conducting defensive air patrols over Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. British defense officials say the U.K. is flying more jets in the region than at any time in the past 15 years. Earlier this week, a British ground-based counter drone unit defended against Iranian drones "in a high-threat area," the British Defense Ministry said.
