Market Chatter: FIFA Expects World Cup Final to Proceed Despite Wildfire Smoke

MT Newswires Live06:13

FIFA has no plans to relocate Sunday's World Cup final at MetLife Stadium despite deteriorating air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said there have been informal discussions involving FIFA and Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House's World Cup task force, though no formal meeting has been scheduled. Staff from the National Weather Service are monitoring conditions throughout the tournament.

A senior forecaster at the US Weather Prediction Center told Bloomberg that while smoke is expected to worsen on Saturday, conditions should improve by Sunday, with the World Cup final "not...terrible" for air quality.
