Hong Kong Stocks Edge Higher After Wall Street Rally

MT Newswires Live09:51

Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Tuesday as easing tensions in the Middle East and falling oil prices continued to support investor sentiment.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.3%, or 81.58 points, to 26,090.98, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.2%, or 15.79 points, to 8,667.94.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high, while the Nasdaq jumped more than 2% as Amazon extended gains following its strong quarterly results.

Brent crude fell 7% after U.S. President Donald Trump said talks with Iran were underway, raising hopes of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict despite Tehran denying that negotiations were taking place.
