Tesla Stock is on a Roll as Retail Traders Buy In

Dow Jones08-10 18:38

Tesla stock was rising again Monday, putting the electric vehicle maker on track to extend a recent good run during which it has clawed back some of its losses for the year.

Shares climbed 1% to $332 ahead of the opening bell. Futures tracking the S&P 500 were 0.1% higher as Wall Street's focus shifted from jobs numbers to inflation.

Tesla snapped a three-week losing streak last week, rising almost 6% as retail investors piled back in.

New retail inflows into the stock totaled about $372 million over the five sessions through Wednesday, up from $121 million the prior weeklong period, according to J.P. Morgan.

Still, Tesla shares were down 27% for the year through Friday's close, dragged lower by a slump in profit and a lack of clarity about the EV maker's artificial-intelligence efforts.

Even after that selloff, the stock isn't cheap. Tesla was fetching 194-times expected earnings for 2026 as of Friday, about 10 turns above its five-year average.
