President Donald Trump announced on August 9 that Will Scharf will become Assistant to the President and White House Counsel, effective September 1, replacing David Warrington. Warrington, who has served as White House Counsel and previously worked for Trump's presidential campaign, will move to the private sector.
Scharf currently serves as White House Staff Secretary and Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission. Trump noted that Scharf previously represented him in numerous cases, including at the Supreme Court, during what Trump called "the Biden Administration’s corrupt and illegal campaign of Weaponization." Scharf has also served as a federal prosecutor, worked in private practice, clerked for two federal appeals court judges, and is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Trump praised Scharf as "Tough, Strong, and Smart" and expressed confidence that he will do a great job as White House Counsel.
