President Donald Trump on August 15 accused the National Trust for Historic Preservation of treason for filing a lawsuit against the U.S. military, alleging the group disclosed top-secret details about a White House security facility.
"These are the TREASONISTS that brought the suit against the Military. They revealed Top Military Secrets!" Trump wrote on X. He claimed the organization's name, which includes "in the United States," misleadingly suggests it is a government agency, noting that the U.S. stopped funding it in 2005 because of disagreement with its mission. Trump said the military and Secret Service asked the group not to file the suit due to the classified nature of the project, but it proceeded anyway due to "Trump Derangement Syndrome." The former president of the National Trust, Carol Quillen, who brought the case, has been unanimously replaced, according to Trump. He also criticized a woman walking her dog near the White House as an activist and serial plaintiff with no standing, arguing she never saw the planned building. "She has no Clearances, or expertise whatsoever, in National Security," Trump said, adding that the case is an abuse of the justice system.
