Island Pharmaceuticals (ASX:ILA) commissioned an additional production campaign of good manufacturing practice (GMP) grade antiviral drug Galidesivir with contract manufacturer PI Health Sciences, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.
The manufacturing is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter, providing up to about 800 treatment courses, per the filing.
The company said the additional supply comes as the ongoing Ebola virus Bundibugyo strain outbreak continues to spread rapidly across Central Africa, with Galidesivir expected to be deployed in Uganda during the year, providing an opportunity to generate human efficacy, safety and virological data during an active outbreak.
The company's shares rose 4% in recent Friday trade.
