(Updates with Ford's response in the third paragraph.)

Ford Motor (F) aims to sell 100,000 of its relatively lower cost Fathom electric trucks in the first year of production, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The Fathom, which will go on sale next year, will start at around $30,000 and will feature technology to compete with Tesla (TSLA) and Chinese automakers, the report said.

Ford said in response to MT Newswires' inquiry that the company does not publicly share volume projections. "We have previously shared that the Universal EV platform will support a range of vehicles at high volumes," a spokesperson said.
