President Donald Trump said on X on September 17 that the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) situation in college sports is "out of control" and will lead to bankruptcies and disaster for many colleges, while also harming women's sports, Olympic sports, and all others except football. He thanked the U.S. Senate for a "very Bipartisan Vote."
"Without 'caps,' all Colleges will be financially consumed and, in many cases, it will ruin them," Trump wrote, warning that professional athletes returning to college for big dollars to play against much younger competitors is "both dangerous and unfair." He noted that only two Republicans, Ashley Moody and Rick Scott from Florida, voted against the measure, but predicted they would eventually support it.
Trump said he looks forward to the final Senate vote next week and action from the House of Representatives, thanking Coach Nick Saban, Randy Levine of the New York Yankees, and others involved in sports. He cited polling at 91% support, declaring "THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA WANT IT DONE."
