Meta Platforms and Shopify are teaming up, with plans to allow the social-media company's personal artificial-intelligence agent to complete purchases on behalf of users with the e-commerce platform's roster of stores.
Shopify--whose platform lets businesses sell, manage orders and process payments online--said the integration with Meta's Muse would be available with Shop Pay, its accelerated, one-tap checkout service that stores buyers' shipping and billing information.
The move aims to offer an "easy and delightful way to shop and check out with Muse," Shopify's Chief Executive Tobias Lütke said in a Monday post on X.
Meta released Muse--an AI assistant that can booking doctor's appointments and managing finances, among other tasks--two weeks ago.
"We want to give our musers access to a wide range of stores to find the absolute perfect products," Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang said in a post on X regarding the partnership with Shopify.
Neither Meta nor Shopify immediately responded to requests for further details about the partnership.
Deutsche Bank analysts said the companies' collaboration marks another proof point that leading AI platforms are integrating with Shopify's commerce infrastructure, helping to quell investor concerns that AI agents and personal shoppers could upend its business.
"In fact, the partnership suggests the opposite and reinforces Shopify's core strengths: structured product data through Shopify Catalog, merchant connectivity, trusted checkout through Shop Pay, and the underlying infrastructure required to complete an order," the analysts said in note.
Shares of Shopify closed up 7.3%, at $137.92, on Monday.
