MT Newswires10-16
Singapore shares opened higher on Friday, tracking the positive swing on Wall Street as the decline in tech stocks moderated.
The Straits Times Index edged up 14.35 points, or 0.27%, to open at 5,417.85.
Investors are also keenly watching local economic data, as Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) surged 68.4% year-over-year in September, following a 46.1% expansion in the prior month.
The country's merchandise trade surplus, however, contracted to SG$9.04 billion in September from SG$13.8 billion the prior month.
