First Resources (Singapore) (SGX:EB5) said it stepped up fire preparedness across its West Kalimantan operations amid heightened wildfire risks for its plantations from severe El Niño-related drought conditions in Indonesia, according to a Thursday filing to the Singapore bourse.
The palm oil producer said its measures include daily satellite monitoring, drone surveillance and ground patrols for early fire detection, alongside an Integrated Fire Management initiative covering prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
The company said it maintains firefighting teams on standby near concession boundaries and coordinates with neighbouring companies and government authorities to contain fires.
The fires have led to a wave of haze in Singapore, following which Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the government is looking into which companies may be responsible for ongoing forest and peatland fires in Indonesia.
In a social media post on Thursday, Wong said Singapore we will take action, wherever warranted under Singapore's Transboundary Haze Pollution Act, and also explore joint action with other countries.
