Singapore has selected Keppel Energy, Sembcorp Utilities and Tuas Power Generation to aggregate biomethane imports under a 300-megawatt regulatory pilot, the Singapore Economic Development Board said Friday.
The 15-year initiative will assess the commercial and operational requirements for importing the renewable gas, with the first deliveries targeted by end-2028. The three companies will source supplies from regional and international markets for use by data centers and industrial manufacturers, either directly as gas or through electricity generated from biomethane.
The pilot's capacity could cover the annual energy requirements of about 600,000 public housing households. The initiative will support emissions reduction and strengthen energy security by diversifying Singapore's gas supply, as natural gas accounts for about 95% of the country's electricity generation, EDB said.
