Spyre's Ulcerative Colitis Combo Approach Gains Support From AbbVie Data, UBS Says

MT Newswires Live10-21

Spyre Therapeutics' (SYRE) combination therapy approach for inflammatory bowel disease gained further validation from new clinical data reported by competitor AbbVie (ABBV), UBS Securities said Monday in a report.

UBS said AbbVie's phase 2a results support its investment thesis ahead of Spyre's planned 2027 phase 2 readout for SPY130 in ulcerative colitis. AbbVie's ABBV-466 combination of Skyrizi and trosunilimab achieved a 40.5% endoscopic remission rate at week 24 in Crohn's disease, compared with 22.4% for Skyrizi alone and 20% for trosunilimab alone, the report said.

Rates of serious infections, serious adverse events and treatment discontinuations were generally comparable across treatment groups, UBS said.

Spyre's SPY130 candidate could ultimately differentiate itself through less frequent dosing and more convenient administration, UBS said. AbbVie's continued investment in combination approaches further validates Spyre's overall strategy, the report said.

UBS maintained its buy rating on Spyre stock and its $120 price target.

Spyre's shares rose 7.8% in Tuesday trading, and AbbVie gained 2.2%.
