POINTSApple’s buybacks have been nothing short of legendary.Target has a solid dividend yield and a long track record of dividend raises.Caterpillar offsets the cyclicality of its business by consistently raising its dividend and repurchasing shares.Aside from being well-known, industry-leading brands, Apple, Target, and Caterpillar may not have much in common as companies. But as stocks, all three investment opportunities balance growth, income, and value.Another throughline is that each business generates a ton of free cash flow (FCF) and then uses that FCF to pay dividends and buy back stock. Here's how stock buybacks have helped to bolster shareholder value, and why Apple, Target, and Caterpillar are top stocks to buy now.Image source: Getty Images. This is how you buy back stockApple is the poster child of using the vast majority of its FCF to buy back its own stock. Over the past five years it has bought back 19.5% of its own stock, and nearly 40% over the last 10 years. And it has done so at prices far lower than the current price of the stock. Caterpillar and Target have done similarly timely repurchases, but not to the extent of Apple.AAPL data by YChartsThe above chart shows exactly the pattern that investors want to see, which is a rising stock price combined with lower shares outstanding. In other words, the stock buybacks were a good use of capital because the share prices are higher today and the repurchase of stock has boosted earnings per share. What investors don't want to see is a falling stock price and a high volume of buybacks, because that indicates a company overpaid for its stock and possibly could have put that capital to work more effectively by improving the underlying business. In the case of Apple, the company pays a small dividend that yields just 0.6%. Apple's FCF yield of 3.9% suggests the company could theoretically have a 3.9% dividend yield if it didn't buy back stock and used all of its FCF on paying dividends instead. However, long-term investors would likely prefer that Apple uses its FCF on buybacks and not the dividend because buybacks permanently reduce the outstanding share count and lead to a better value for Apple stock over the long term.A rock-solid dividend yield backed by a great brandLike Apple, Target has done a phenomenal job of buying back shares at a lower average price than the current price of the stock. But Target simply doesn't have the growth prospects or high margins that Apple enjoys. And for that reason, it makes sense for Target to do a combination of buying back stock and paying a high dividend -- which is exactly what Target is doing. Not only does Target stock have a dividend yield of 2.7%, but it is also a Dividend King, meaning an S&P 500 component that has paid and raised its dividend for at least 50 years.Target's track record for dividend raises and stock buybacks indicates that it is a stable business that routinely generates more FCF than it needs, and it directly passes that FCF along to shareholders.Even so, Target hasn't shied away from growth opportunities. It wasn't long ago that investors talked about Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and the rise of e-commerce inflicting permanent or even existential damage on Target's business model. To its credit, Target invested in e-commerce and curbside pickup. But it did so in a way that was conducive to its business model -- which was essentially leveraging its stores to serve as pickup locations and save on shipping. That strategy has proven highly successful for Target. It has been able to boost its top and bottom lines without directly competing with Amazon by shipping from a warehouse to a consumer's doorstep. In fact, Target said that more than 95% of sales, including its digital sales, were fulfilled by its stores in 2022. Target has done an excellent job of leveraging its existing business model to adapt to modern consumer needs instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and play catchup with Amazon.A cyclical business model, but a reliable and safe stockCaterpillar stock has arguably been undervalued for a long time. The true value of the company's global oil and gas, construction, and mining portfolio has been put on display during the supply chain challenges over the last couple of years. Caterpillar stock reached an all-time high in January. Since then the stock has fallen about 20% from that peak. But the company's slew of buybacks over the past five years still looks prudent in hindsight. What's more, Caterpillar has a 2.2% dividend yield and has paid and raised its dividend for 29 consecutive years -- a rare feat for a cyclical company that is heavily dependent on the broader economy.Caterpillar's diverse business model, both across industries and geographies, as well as its high FCF, dividend, and ability to buy back shares make it a unique industrial stock. The company benefits from economic tailwinds while avoiding catastrophic downturns in its business when the economic cycle shifts. Caterpillar is a great stock to own for long-term investors that want to benefit from global industrialization without the volatility in earnings that is so common among smaller, less diversified industrial names.A mixed trio of great buys nowApple, Target, and Caterpillar all tend to generate high amounts of FCF and use that FCF to directly benefit shareholders. Apple leans more on buybacks than dividends, believing its ability to grow earnings will reward long-term shareholders more than a dividend. Meanwhile, Target and Caterpillar blend a combination of dividend raises and buybacks, and both sport impressive steaks of dividend raises year after year.Investors looking to build a diversified portfolio could consider investing in all three industry-leading businesses for exposure to different sectors of the economy and a blend of growth, value, and income.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TGT":0.9,"CAT":0.9,"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2416,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9949484283,"gmtCreate":1678834184243,"gmtModify":1678834188071,"author":{"id":"3568016139154441","authorId":"3568016139154441","name":"WeeLee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/ece9747089f75a8bbd4983d0e64c460d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3568016139154441","idStr":"3568016139154441"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9949484283","repostId":"2319074636","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2319074636","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1678786627,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2319074636?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-03-14 17:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"A Bull Market Is Coming: 5 Top Stocks to Buy Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2319074636","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These companies all have solid long-term prospects.","content":"
\n
With stock indexes still in the doldrums, you may not be thinking about the next bull market right now. But today actually is a great time to focus on the better days ahead -- whether they are right around the corner or farther down the road -- so that you can prepare your portfolio and enter that bull market in a position of strength.Today, many top stocks with amazing growth prospects are cheap, beaten down by today's tough market. And that equals opportunity for you to snap up potential long-term winners for a bargain. You'll find these players across industries.Let's check out five top stocks to buy now -- and benefit from later.1. ModernaWhen you think of Moderna (MRNA 6.95%), you probably think of the coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine has generated billions of dollars in earnings over the past two years. That's the company's only product right now -- and it helped Moderna's stock soar earlier in the pandemic. These days, Moderna's dependence on the vaccine for revenue has done just the opposite: It's weighed on stock performance. That's as investors worry about future growth. But these concerns look overdone. Moderna has 48 programs in development -- and even some opportunities for blockbuster revenue over the next few years. The company has three potential blockbusters other than the coronavirus program in phase 3 trials right now. These are vaccine candidates for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), flu, and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Moderna aims to file for regulatory approval of the RSV candidate in the first half of this year. All of this means Moderna may be poised for a new phase of growth. And a bull market could be the perfect occasion for this growth stock to soar.2. Teladoc HealthTeladoc Health (TDOC 3.02%) disappointed investors last year after reporting billion-dollar noncash goodwill impairment charges linked to an acquisition. Investors had already been worried about Teladoc's lack of profitability, and these charges deepened their concerns.Still, it's important to look at the whole picture. Yes, it seems Teladoc overpaid for its purchase of chronic care specialist Livongo in 2020, resulting in the impairment charges. But over time, chronic care is a key growth element for Teladoc. So the investment could pay off in the long run. Also, the company has made progress in areas that should help it on the path to profitability. Teladoc has increased members, revenue, and visits. The company also has made significant gains thanks to its mental health business, BetterHelp. That business' revenue climbed 29% in the fourth quarter of last year and served more than 1 million people during the year.Teladoc also has shifted its strategy to favor increasing margins and reaching profitability. Earlier in the year, this began by cutting some jobs and office space. Today, Teladoc is trading at its lowest ever in relation to sales. And this looks like a steal considering the company's potential in this high-growth market.TDOC PS Ratio data by YCharts3. TargetLast year wasn't easy for Target (TGT -0.16%). The retailer faced higher inflation, which weighed on its costs and on shoppers' wallets. In spite of the difficult environment, Target still managed to increase revenue -- and offer us clues that its growth story is far from over. The fourth quarter represented Target's 23rd straight quarter of comparable sales growth. And the company made market share gains across all five of its product categories last year.Moving forward, Target is investing in areas that should support long-term growth. The company opened six new sortation centers in 2022. These centers speed up order delivery and lower Target's costs.Target also has revamped stores to better serve customers and partnered with companies like Ulta Beauty and Disney to drive traffic. Target says Ulta sales at Target quadrupled from 2021 to 2022.Today, Target shares are trading for less than 20 times forward earnings estimates. That's down from more than 40 a year ago -- a steal considering Target's strength through tough times -- and potential growth ahead.4. Home DepotAs people spent more time at home over the past few years, they increasingly focused on home improvement. And Home Depot (HD 0.07%), the world's biggest home improvement retailer, benefited. The company increased sales by $47.2 billion from 2019 through 2022. That represents a compound annual growth rate of more than 12%.The company has noted a softening in demand in recent times. And this year probably won't be a huge year of growth. A slowdown in consumer spending may weigh on sales. But this is a temporary situation -- and allows us the opportunity to pick up a strong long-term winner for a good price. Home Depot shares are trading for 18 times forward earnings estimates right now.Meanwhile, Home Depot has invested in recent years in areas that should boost growth down the road, such as improving its digital platform. Home Depot also has focused on making the entire shopping experience easier for its professional customers. This is key because these customers represent a $450 billion market. So, potential market share gains here for Home Depot should translate into growth.5. EtsyLike other e-commerce companies and retailers, Etsy (ETSY -2.14%) is facing today's headwinds of higher inflation. But as I mentioned, today's economic woes won't last forever, so it's important to take a long-term view. And from this angle, there's reason to be optimistic about Etsy. The e-commerce company was already growing prior to the pandemic. Shoppers liked going to Etsy for handmade goods -- and sellers were happy to set up shop on this platform. But lockdowns earlier in the crisis gave people a fresh opportunity to discover this dynamic player. And Etsy's earnings soared. Importantly, Etsy's kept a lot of those gains. The company, from a revenue perspective, is almost three times bigger than it was back in 2019. Etsy also has about twice as many active buyers as it did back then. And Etsy has broadened its reach. For example, customers who identify as men have soared 124% since 2019 to a record high. And, in spite of today's difficult environment, Etsy's consolidated gross merchandise sales only fell 0.7% on a currency-neutral basis in the most recent quarter.Etsy trades at 25 times forward earnings estimates, down from 40 a year ago. When the general market takes off, Etsy has what it takes to follow. And that means the valuation we're seeing today represents a great buying opportunity.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MRNA":0.9,"TGT":0.9,"TDOC":0.9,"ETSY":0.9,"HD":0.66}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2523,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9940058262,"gmtCreate":1677623575756,"gmtModify":1677623579530,"author":{"id":"3568016139154441","authorId":"3568016139154441","name":"WeeLee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/ece9747089f75a8bbd4983d0e64c460d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3568016139154441","idStr":"3568016139154441"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9940058262","repostId":"1185991353","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1185991353","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1677598082,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1185991353?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-02-28 23:28","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Top Calls on Wall Street: Apple, Tesla, Dick's, Costco, Snowflake, Meta, Dish and More","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1185991353","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Here are Tuesday’s biggest calls on Wall Street:Mizuho reiterates Tesla as buyMizuho said it’s stand","content":"

Here are Tuesday’s biggest calls on Wall Street:

Mizuho reiterates Tesla as buy

Mizuho said it’s standing by its buy rating heading into the company’s analyst day on March 1.

“Maintain Buy Rating onTSLAas we see xEV/ADAS (electric vehicle/advanced driver assistance systems) growing at a secular 20-30% ’22-’30 CAGR and TSLA in a leadership position.”

Barclays reiterates Apple as equal weight

Barclays said low growth in the App Store is the “new norm” for Apple.

“The App Store is the largest revenue contributor in Services (33% by our estimates). The Nasdaq Composite added 1.97%.

Powell was repeating comments from previous appearances. He said the Fed remained “strongly committed” to bringing down inflation, repeated the statement language about ongoing rate increases, and stressed the problems that inflation can cause for consumers and the labor market.

“Without price stability, the economy does not work for anyone,” Powell said.

That's emphasizing to financial markets that the central bank isn't planning on backing down from its policy tightening yet.

Labor market is still extremely tight, with job gains being robust. "Although the pace of jobs growth has slowed", the labor market is still "out of balance," he said.

"I don't see cutting rates this year." Powell said he's "not particularly concerned about the divergence" between the Fed's guidance and financial markets that are only expecting one more rate hike before a pause.

"Certainty is just not appropriate here... we're going to be cautious about declaring victory... we're in the early stages of disinflation."

He expects positive growth for this year, but at a subdued pace, pointing out that the global economic picture has improved.

There's still a path to a "soft landing." "My base case is that the economy can return to 2% inflation without a substantial downturn," he said.

He doesn't expect that core services, ex-housing, inflation will come down significantly without a better balance in the labor market.

When asked about the Federal debt ceiling, Powell said the only way forward is for Congress to raise the debt level. "Don't assume" the Fed can protect the economy from a debt default, he added.

"We've raised the rate by 450 basis points" and we're talking about a couple more rate hikes before a pause, Powell said.

"It would be very premature to declare victory," he said. "The disinflation process has started, especially in goods."

The policymakers have "no desire" to over-tighten. And they can adjust policy if they find that they did over-tighten.

There's "still work to do" in tightening financial conditions. If data warrants, the FOMC would be willing to move rates higher than its previous projections.
