the price of the digital coin fell more than 10% on Tuesday.\n“As it marches toward $100 trillion, you’re going to see the growth rates fall, the volatility fall,” said Saylor, whose company has been buying bitcoin since August.\n\nMicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor told CNBC on Tuesday he believes bitcoin will continue appreciating in value to the point where the cryptocurrency becomes a “stabilizing influence” for the entire global financial system. He predicted, in a bold call, that bitcoin’s market value would be $100 trillion one day.\nSaylor’s comments on“Squawk Box”came as the price of bitcoin fell more than 10% on Tuesday, dipping below $50,000 per unit. The move lower took the market value of the world’s largest cryptocurrency back under $1 trillion, just a few days after the volatile digital asset eclipsed that level for the first time.\nHowever, bitcoin was still up 60% since the start of the year and has risen more than 360% in the last 12 months.\n“There’s a $500 trillion monetary planet and the outer layer is currency, then you’ve got stocks, bonds, real estate. There’s $10 trillion worth of gold in there, $1 trillion of bitcoin in there. Bitcoin is going to flip gold, and it’s going to subsume the entire gold market cap,” contended Saylor, who has become one of the most prominent evangelists for bitcoin since his enterprise software company began buying it in August.\n“Then it’s going to subsume negative-yielding sovereign debt and other monetary indexes until it grows to $100 trillion. Once it gets to $10 trillion, its volatility will be dramatically less,” Saylor said. “As it marches toward $100 trillion, you’re going to see the growth rates fall, the volatility fall, and it’s going to be a stabilizing influence in the entire financial system of the 21st century.”\nIn his addition to his company’s significant bitcoin holdings, Saylor told CNBC he also owns the digital coin in a personal capacity.\nBitcoin has been called “digital gold” by some crypto bulls, and they tout its ability to serve as a store of value due to the fact its total supply is capped at 21 million coins. Currently, there are 18.64 million coins in circulation,according to Coindesk. New bitcoins come onto the market as a reward for so-called miners, who use high-powered computers to verify transactions across the decentralized system.\nSaylor laid out his grand vision for bitcoin a day after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen once again raised questions about the digital coin. Yellen said she was worried about its role in “illicit finance” and the energy consumption used to mine bitcoin.\n“It is a highly speculative asset and you know I think people should be aware it can be extremely volatile and I do worry about potential losses that investors can suffer,” Yellen, also a former Federal Reserve chair, added at Monday’s New York Times DealBook conference.\nIn an interview last week on CNBC, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said he was not concerned about bitcoin’s potential to upend the U.S. dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency.\n“I just think for Fed policy, it’s going to be a dollar economy as far as the eye can see — a dollar global economy really as far as the eye can see — and whether the gold price goes up or down, or the bitcoin price goes up or down, doesn’t really affect that,” Bullard said on “Squawk Box.”\nSaylor said he sees the demand for bitcoin growing in the coming years, not only from institutions but from individual people around the world, which would have the effect of pushing its value upward.\n“I think that you can expect that we’ll have a billion people storing their value, in essence a savings account, on a mobile device within five years and they’re going to want to use something like bitcoin,” he contended, describing it as “the dominant digital monetary network.”\nLast week, MicroStrategy completed its second convertible debt offering with the goal of using the net proceeds to buy bitcoin. The first debt sale came in at $650 million in December. Some investors were expecting the company was expected to release blowout earnings today and fell short of that. The company did post incredible revenue growth, and the path forward looks bright as well. However, investors were disappointed with just how bright that picture is according to the company. The stock is falling leading up to the end of the lock-up period as expected. Next week will tell a better story as to where this stock is headed. If you are feeling risky, jump aboard.</p>\n<p><b>Who Are They?</b></p>\n<p>If you are like me, you likely had no idea who this company was or what they did. Well, Palantir Technologies Inc. has been around since 2003 and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. In short,they build and deploy software platforms for the intelligence community in the USA to assist in counterterrorism investigations and operations.</p>\n<p>Palantir Gothamis a software program that identifies patterns hidden deep within datasets. This helps execute real-world responses to threats that have been identified within the platform. This was used in the efforts to help those in need in hurricane Florence in 2018. Palantir Gothamcombined publicly available flood data with weather information and social vulnerability census data to find the communities in greatest needand resources were deployed appropriately. More recently, they are providing the U.S. government with coronavirus tracking software.</p>\n<p>The company also provides Palantir Foundry,a platform that transforms the ways organizations operate by creating a central operating system for their data; and allows individual users to integrate and analyze the data they need in one place.</p>\n<p>Pretty cool hey?</p>\n<p><b>What Is Driving The Company?</b></p>\n<p>Revenue. This is a growth play, plain and simple. Looking below we can see what is forecasted down the pipe. The missing block is 2020, which we found out todaywas $1.1 billion. That is a ~47% increase year-over-year. Going forward, analysts are projecting the pace stays heavy at 35%+ per year revenue growth. Often we consider 20% being strong, so that makes this look really good. The stock fell over 12% today on the earnings news. Upon diving deeper, it would appear most investors were disappointed with the forward forecasts. I personally think they are sandbagging a bit to blow away consensus down the line, but time will tell how true that is. The local news has all kinds of data on it when it comes to COVID-19.In 2020, Palantir helped 100 commercial organizations and 10 national governments respond to COVID-19. The company did state that they are targeting $4 billion in revenue by 2025, which carrying 30% per year growth from here will get you. I fully expect that number to creep closer to $5 billion based on current projections. Palantir is going after the \"big fish\" across multiple industries.8 of their customers fall into the Fortune 100, and 12 of the Global 100. As their products continue to develop and improve, their bottom line is only going to get better. I think there is a lot of room to run here in the long term.</p>\n<p><b>What Are The Risks?</b></p>\n<p>One of the up-and-coming risks is the lock-up period ending, which I will touch on below. Besides that, I will look at the government contracts. Yes, they are some of the most important, but that's not to say they come without risk. In the past, Palantir has said they need to focus more so on commercial customers to help the bottom line and to turn a profit (part of the reason for the earnings sell-off). As we can see, they have landed some big-time commercial clients, but that government aspect still exists.</p>\n<p>Something to keep in mind as well is that dealing with the government can lead to crossing some lines that some are not okay with. As reported by the Washington Post,in 2018, more than 200 employees signed a letter to CEO Alex Karp, citing concerns over a partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Multiple other big tech companies have been forced to cut ties with government agencies in the past over potential human rights violations.</p>\n<p>That said, I do really think the company will continue to do very well in the commercial sector and well reduce the overall government exposure overtime.</p>\n<p><b>What's The \"Lock-Up Period\"?</b></p>\n<p>The one concern many have had with Palantir is the lock-up period, which ends on February 19th (Friday). Let's take a look at what the technicals show us.</p>\n<p><b>What Does The Price Say?</b></p>\n<p>Taking a quick peek at the technicals, we can see a couple of really strong support levels. Firstly, we broke through a pretty big one at $30 today and did so in a big way, which is a bit concerning in the short term, but there is potential for a quick bounce to re-test that $30 mark quickly. If these markets have taught us anything, it's that they can move quickly! In a normal case, this is probably where my stop would be. Looking below we can see roughly where I am pulling $23 out of. This is a pretty substantial move from here yet. Would be about 20% to the downside. I do think there will be a decent bounce that takes the stock back to $36-$40, but the question is when. Prof. Greenwood told<i>Barron’s</i>that he and his fellow researchers learned from their study of the history of bubbles that they “rarely are marketwide” events. Of the 40 industries that satisfied the researchers’ definition of a bubble, 21—or 53%—burst.</p><p>What this means, assuming the future is like the past: There’s a slightly better than one out of two chance that any industry that outperforms the market by 100 percentage points in any two-year period will lose 40% or more over the subsequent two years.</p><p>The researchers also studied how the probabilities of a crash changed when they tightened or loosened their definition of a bubble. When they set the criterion to be just 50 percentage points ahead of the market, instead of 100, the odds of a crash fell to just 20%. When they tightened the criterion to 150 percentage points, the probabilities of a crash rose to 80%.</p><p>This latter probability is what applies to the Technology Hardware, Storage &amp; Peripherals index. Over the past two years, according to FactSet, it has outperformed the&nbsp;S&amp;P 500&nbsp;by 151 percentage points.</p><p>One is tempted to apply the professors’ formula to individual securities, as I myself have done in the past. In November 2017, for example, I used the formula to argue thatthe odds of Bitcoin crashingwere greater than 80%. It lost 67% over the next 12 months. I used the professors’ formulaonce again in February 2020to argue that the odds of&nbsp;Tesla(TSLA) crashing were 80%. The stock lost 59% over the next six weeks.</p><p>Since then, of course,TeslaandBitcoin have skyrocketed, as have any of a number of other highflying assets. Should I once again forecast that there is a high probability of their crashing, I asked Greenwood? Some are even predicting a prolonger period of commodity-intensive growth that marks a repeat of the so-called “supercycle” of the 2000s — where oil and metal prices hit record highs as China’s rapid industrialisation caught the industry napping.</p>\n<p>“It’s easy — and largely accurate — to present the 2021 commodity outlook as a V-shaped vaccine trade,” said Goldman Sachs in a recent report. “What we think is key, however, is that this recovery in commodity prices will actually be the beginning of a much longer structural bull market for commodities.”</p>\n<p>Commodities, which have been out favour with investors for the best part of a decade, have enjoyed a strong run in recent months helped by demand from China, the world’s biggest buyer of natural resources. Soyabean prices are up more than 50 per cent over the past year, while copper has risen around 40 per cent. Oil, meanwhile, has rebounded to its highest since the early days of the coronavirus crisis. Brent, the international standard, hit $60 on Monday.</p>\n<p>The rally has been exceptionally wide-ranging. A basket of 27 commodity futures — from coffee to nickel — tracked by specialist asset manager SummerHaven showed that all had positive returns over the six months to mid-January, including any gains from rolling over futures contracts.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d27002730a162c7e367ac38b6ffc4ae1\" tg-width=\"1400\" tg-height=\"1000\"></p>\n<p>“This is really unusual. We’ve looked back 50 years and we’ve never seen this basket of commodities all go up at once,” said managing partner Kurt Nelson.</p>\n<p>Still, some investors say the market is not ready to embark on a new supercycle just yet. “What we certainly do have at the moment is a cyclical recovery driven by restocking in Europe, the US and China and boosted by supply disruptions,” said George Cheveley, portfolio manager at asset management company Ninety One. He said a broader shift is “two to three years away”.</p>\n<p>SummerHaven’s Nelson says a key catalyst for the rally has been a concern that the unprecedented monetary and fiscal policies enacted during the crisis will feed inflation, encouraging fund managers to protect themselves by buying commonly used hedges such as oil and metals.</p>\n<p>Given that most commodities are priced in dollars, last year’s slide in the value of the greenback is also making them cheaper in other currencies, adding to demand.</p>\n<p>Eliot&nbsp;Geller, a partner at CoreCommodity Management, thinks this macroeconomic backdrop for commodities is stronger than at any time in the previous decade.</p>\n<p>&nbsp;“Since 2010, we have seen equity markets rally, a strong US dollar, interest rates trend lower and inflation expectations decline,” he said. “Today, we have the threat of rising inflation, a weaker dollar and interest rates that are already zero or negative.”</p>\n<p>Those predicting a new supercycle — often described as prolonged period of surging demand that outstrips supply — point to global recovery programmes that put greater emphasis on job creation and environmental sustainability than on inflation control.</p>\n<p>“The past decade has seen monetary policy, which was more supportive for financial assets, while current fiscal policy should be more supportive for real assets like commodities,” said Don Casturo, the founder of specialist asset manager Quantix Commodities.</p>\n<p>Commodity bulls also see a supply gap coming. Goldman reckons the energy transition has the potential to create $1tn-$2tn a year in infrastructure investment over the next decade as the world reduces its reliance on carbon. That should drive up demand for a variety of raw materials, including copper, which will be need to wire the solar panels and electric cars of the new economy.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/020a07ab14b3198018a17698d2bce3eb\" tg-width=\"1400\" tg-height=\"1000\"></p>\n<p>Years of low prices, meanwhile, have forced producers to curb spending on new projects and expansions, holding back supply. This is not only true of the oil industry, where investment had been slashed, but also mining.</p>\n<p>“There needs to be a price blowout to bring on the new supply,” said James Johnstone, co-head of emerging and frontier markets at&nbsp;RWC Partners, a London-based investment manager that has invested in a number of copper producers.</p>\n<p>Some doubt that this upswing in commodity prices can match the last.</p>\n<p>“Historically a supercycle happens every 30 to 40 years and we are just out of one. So this would be an exception,” said Norbert Rücker, head of economics at Swiss private bank Julius Baer. “And if you look at what triggered the last supercycle it was Chinese urbanisation and the immense spend of it. The energy transition won’t happen as quickly.”</p>\n<p>But others think the stage is set for a broad-based rally can well outlast the pandemic. “The set-up for commodities is really extraordinary.
