made significant progress on its road to profitability during the third quarter.

The company committed to ~55% revenue growth in 2023, and reaffirmed that it expects to reach group profitability in the second half of 2024.

We believe Grab is a very high risk, high potential reward type of investment.

While we continue to view Grab Holdings Limited as a highly speculative investment, we continue to see the company making progress towards profitability after it reported third quarter results. Year-over-year group revenue was up over 140%, and loss for the period improved substantially. Monthly transacting users also grew 30% y/y, accelerating significantly from the previous two quarters.

The company achieved an important milestone during the quarter, with the delivery business turning segment adjusted EBITDA positive for the first time. Another big positive was that revenue for deliveries tripled compared to the same period a year ago.

While the company continues to be unprofitable, there is a lot of potential. We, therefore, continue to view Grab as a high risk, high reward type of investment. As a reminder, about one in twenty people in Southeast Asia eat, ride, or pay with Grab every month. Grab is Southeast Asia's leading super app, operating in more than 480 cities.

The company is becoming more disciplined with its spending and incentives in order to make progress towards its profitability goal. Total incentives as a percentage of gross merchandise volume (GMV) continued to improve, going down to ~9.4%. This helped improved adjusted EBITDA margins as a proportion of GMV improve to -3.2%.The deliveries segment adjusted EBITDA margin turned slightly positive, delivering 0.4% adjusted EBITDA as a percentage of the deliveries GMV. The mobility segment delivered adjusted EBITDA margins of 12.5% for the quarter, despite still being at only ~80% of pre-Covid levels in terms of driver-partners. Advertising and financial services still remain relatively small businesses for the company, but have a lot of potential. For example, merchants were getting four to seven times returns on their advertising spend on Grab in the third quarter this year. We believe these relatively new business have a lot of potential.

Q3 2022 Results

Revenues grew 143% y/y or 156% on a constant currency basis to reach $382 million. Mobility revenues doubled y/y thanks to the continued recovery in ride-hailing demand. Deliveries revenue more than tripled, while financial services and the enterprise segment recorded revenue growth of 44% and 113% respectively.

GMV for the third quarter recorded growth of 26% y/y to reach $5.1 billion, an all-time high. On a constant currency basis, GMV grew by 32% y/y. The company reported an IFRS loss of $342 million, representing a 65% improvement from the loss of $988 million in the prior year period.

Pathway to Profitability

During its investor day in September this year, the company shared its goal to reach group adjusted EBITDA breakeven in the second half of 2024.

The company reaffirmed this target during the most recent earnings call, saying it remains confident that the $5.3 billion of net cash liquidity as of the third quarter should be a big enough buffer to allow the company to reach its expected group adjusted EBITDA breakeven in the second half of 2024. Peter Oey, the company's CFO, even talked about the possibility to accelerate this time line, although for the time being they are not updating their guidance:

On your question about group EBITDA breakeven time line, as Alex mentioned, deliveries profitability was a very critical milestone for us. And we're just getting started here, and we're going to continue to accelerate the profitability time line for deliveries to get to that steady state margin. That's a key focus area for us. We're also very focused Pang, on making sure our cost base also continues to be optimized as a business.

Now your question, is there room for upside for that time line for the second half 2024? Yes, there is upside. And see potential for that to accelerate. But where we are today, we are maintaining guidance for now, and we can continue to focus on – continuing to focus on the deliveries, acceleration margin, as well as just continuing to refine the business and continue also to have that profitable growth that we saw this quarter again.

Balance Sheet

Grab ended the third quarter with $7.4 billion of gross cash liquidity, with cash liquidity declining by $291 million from the end of the second quarter of 2022. Net cash liquidity was $5.3 billion as of the end of the third quarter. The company shared that right now cash preservation is top of mind for them.

Guidance

The company sounded confident that revenue can outperform their initial guidance range of $1.25 billion to $1.3 billion for 2022, which they now raised to be $1.32 billion to $1.35 billion. This represents 105% to 110% y/y growth on a constant currency basis.

Grab also reiterated its expectation to grow revenues by 45% to 55% y/y in 2023 on a constant currency basis. The company also raised its adjusted EBITDA expectations for the second half of 2022 to a $315 million loss from a $380 million loss previously. This would represent a 40% half-on-half adjusted EBITDA improvement.

Valuation

It is difficult to value Grab given that it has yet to turn profitable, and for the time being it continues to burn cash. Still, the company has a lot of potential and it could become profitable in a few years if the company hits its targets. One way to think about Grab's valuation is by comparing its enterprise value and market cap against the size of the economy taking place in its super app, otherwise known as the GMV. Annualizing the most recent quarterly GMV results in ~$20 billion of GMV, which compares favorably to Grab's ~$12 billion market cap and ~$7.5 billion enterprise value.

Another valuation metric that can be used is EV/Revenues. The forward EV/Revenues multiple currently stands at ~5.8x. Whether this turns out to be cheap or expensive will, of course, depend on how long the company can maintain its high growth rate, and whether or not it can turn profitable in the next couple of years.

Risks

The biggest risk we see with an investment in Grab is that it continues to be a cash burning operation, although it is making significant progress on its road to profitability. We believe this is a very high risk, high potential reward type of investment.

Conclusion

Grab delivered positive news during the most recent quarterly results, in particular sharing that its delivery segment achieved breakeven in the third quarter. The mobility segment still has not gotten back to pre-Covid levels, but it is quickly recovering. We believe these relatively new business have a lot of potential.Q3 2022 ResultsRevenues grew 143% y/y or 156% on a constant currency basis to reach $382 million. Mobility revenues doubled y/y thanks to the continued recovery in ride-hailing demand. Deliveries revenue more than tripled, while financial services and the enterprise segment recorded revenue growth of 44% and 113% respectively.GMV for the third quarter recorded growth of 26% y/y to reach $5.1 billion, an all-time high. On a constant currency basis, GMV grew by 32% y/y. The company reported an IFRS loss of $342 million, representing a 65% improvement from the loss of $988 million in the prior year period.Pathway to ProfitabilityDuring its investor day in September this year, the company shared its goal to reach group adjusted EBITDA breakeven in the second half of 2024.The company reaffirmed this target during the most recent earnings call, saying it remains confident that the $5.3 billion of net cash liquidity as of the third quarter should be a big enough buffer to allow the company to reach its expected group adjusted EBITDA breakeven in the second half of 2024. Peter Oey, the company's CFO, even talked about the possibility to accelerate this time line, although for the time being they are not updating their guidance:On your question about group EBITDA breakeven time line, as Alex mentioned, deliveries profitability was a very critical milestone for us. But where we are today, we are maintaining guidance for now, and we can continue to focus on – continuing to focus on the deliveries, acceleration margin, as well as just continuing to refine the business and continue also to have that profitable growth that we saw this quarter again.Balance SheetGrab ended the third quarter with $7.4 billion of gross cash liquidity, with cash liquidity declining by $291 million from the end of the second quarter of 2022. Net cash liquidity was $5.3 billion as of the end of the third quarter. The company shared that right now cash preservation is top of mind for them.GuidanceThe company sounded confident that revenue can outperform their initial guidance range of $1.25 billion to $1.3 billion for 2022, which they now raised to be $1.32 billion to $1.35 billion. This represents 105% to 110% y/y growth on a constant currency basis.Grab also reiterated its expectation to grow revenues by 45% to 55% y/y in 2023 on a constant currency basis. The company also raised its adjusted EBITDA expectations for the second half of 2022 to a $315 million loss from a $380 million loss previously. This would represent a 40% half-on-half adjusted EBITDA improvement.ValuationIt is difficult to value Grab given that it has yet to turn profitable, and for the time being it continues to burn cash. Still, the company has a lot of potential and it could become profitable in a few years if the company hits its targets. One way to think about Grab's valuation is by comparing its enterprise value and market cap against the size of the economy taking place in its super app, otherwise known as the GMV. Annualizing the most recent quarterly GMV results in ~$20 billion of GMV, which compares favorably to Grab's ~$12 billion market cap and ~$7.5 billion enterprise value.Another valuation metric that can be used is EV/Revenues. The forward EV/Revenues multiple currently stands at ~5.8x. Whether this turns out to be cheap or expensive will, of course, depend on how long the company can maintain its high growth rate, and whether or not it can turn profitable in the next couple of years.RisksThe biggest risk we see with an investment in Grab is that it continues to be a cash burning operation, although it is making significant progress on its road to profitability. We believe this is a very high risk, high potential reward type of investment.ConclusionGrab delivered positive news during the most recent quarterly results, in particular sharing that its delivery segment achieved breakeven in the third quarter. The mobility segment still has not gotten back to pre-Covid levels, but it is quickly recovering. Importantly, the company committed to ~55% revenue growth in 2023, and to reach group profitability in the second half of 2024. We continue to view shares as offering high risk and high potential reward, depending on how long it can maintain its high growth rates, and whether or not it manages to become profitable.Editor's Note: This article covers one or more microcap stocks. The sector generated $50.7 billion in revenue in January 2022, indicating that this market is off to a hot start this year.By 2030, global semiconductor sales are expected to exceed $1 trillion, which is why investors looking to add some long-term winners to their portfolios should take a closer look at this sector.Image source: Getty Images.Nvidia and Skyworks Solutions could make the most of the booming demand for semiconductors as they serve fast-growing niches such as data centers, wireless networking, smartphones, and computers. Let's look at the reasons these semiconductor stocks could run up exponentially thanks to the semiconductor boom.1. NvidiaNvidia finished fiscal 2022 (which ended on Jan. 30) with $26.9 billion in revenue, an increase of 61% over the previous year. That figure pales in comparison to the $1 trillion addressable revenue opportunity that Nvidia management says it is sitting on, split among multiple verticals such as gaming, automotive, chips and systems, artificial intelligence (AI) enterprise software, and what it calls the Omniverse (its platform for 3D designs). The data center business, for instance, is creating the need for more of the graphics processing units (GPUs) that Nvidia sells. Cloud service providers have increased their GPU deployments by a multiple of nine times in four years, a trend that's here to stay with accelerating AI and machine-learning workloads. A third-party estimate forecasts that the global market for data-center accelerators could hit $53 billion in revenue by 2027 as compared to $4.2 billion in 2020.Nvidia is in a solid position to tap into this market. GPUs are expected to account for nearly 40% of the accelerator market revenue by 2027, and Nvidia reportedly controls more than an 80% share of data center GPUs. It's working to strengthen its grip further with its Grace chips to accelerate AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. In all, data centers, AI enterprise software, and hyperscale computing present a $450 billion addressable opportunity for Nvidia, and the company looks ready to make the most of it.The automotive market is another reason Nvidia's outstanding growth is here to stay. The company generated just $566 million in revenue from this segment in fiscal 2022, but it sees a $300 billion opportunity here. It already has lined up $11 billion worth of design wins (a design win happens when a company's chips get designed into a product), a number that could increase substantially thanks to the huge ecosystem of automotive partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that Nvidia has built up.Throw in the catalysts in Nvidia's gaming and professional visualization businesses, and it is easy to see why earnings are expected to clock a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 31% for the next five years. But the stock could achieve faster growth given the tremendous size of the markets the company operates in, helping this growth stock go parabolic in the future.2. Skyworks SolutionsSales of 5G smartphones increased117% in 2021, according to market research firm IDC, and that's expected to increase at an incredible pace in the long run as well. According to another estimate, global 5G smartphone sales are expected to register a CAGR of 125% through 2025.For investors looking to benefit from this fast-growing market, Skyworks Solutions could be a solid bet since it supplies chips to leading smartphone OEMs such as Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo -- the top five vendors of 5G smartphones across the globe, according to Strategy Analytics. Skyworks, therefore, is a pick-and-shovel play on the 5G smartphone market. The company's mobile business produced 68% of its total revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2022, which ended on Dec. 31, 2021. Apple was its largest customer last fiscal year with 59% of the total revenue. This tight relationship with Apple helped Skyworks finish fiscal 2021 (ended on Oct. 1, 2021) with 52% revenue growth to a record $5.1 billion, while non-GAAP earnings per share jumped 71% to $10.50 per share.Apple's expansion of its 5G smartphone lineup with the addition of the new iPhone SE should give Skyworks a shot in the arm. The new iPhone could boost Apple's sales substantially by attracting budget-conscious customers. The smartphone maker is expected to sell at least 30 million units of the iPhone SE this year, though the number could be higher given the pricing of the device -- eventually giving Skyworks a boost.Rapid growth in 5G smartphone adoption can help Skyworks sustain its impressive momentum as these devices are equipped with more radio-frequency (RF) content. While the tech sector and growth plays are apparently out of favor now, Palantir’s approaching earnings date could supply a catalyst for a new upleg. Palantir is set to report record revenues and free cash flow next week, and may initiate strong free cash flow guidance for FY 2022. Since an acceleration of growth in the private enterprise business can also be expected for Q4'21, shares of Palantir are a buy before the company reports earnings!

Why Palantir could be set to crush earnings expectations

The earnings date for Palantir is approaching and the software analytics firm could supply an earnings card that is much better than expected.Palantir’s guidance for the fourth-quarter and for the 2021 fiscal year calls for:

Q4’21 revenues of $418M, implying 7% quarter over quarter growth

Q4’21 adjusted operating margin of 22%

FY 2021 revenues of $1.53B, implying 40% revenue growth year over year

FY 2021 free cash flow of at least $400M.

Given that momentum in Palantir’s (private enterprise) business accelerated throughout 2021 and that the firm increased its free cash flow guidance for FY 2021 more than once last year, I believe Palantir is going to report much better results for the fourth-quarter and for the full-year than what the company itself guided for. The result could be a major revaluation of Palantir’s shares next week, especially if an impressive earnings card goes together with strong free cash flow guidance for FY 2022.

For the fourth-quarter, I expect revenues of $725M, $7M above guidance and an adjusted operating margin of 28-30%, significantly above Palantir’s margin guidance of 22%. The reason for these optimistic predictions is that more commercial clients will likely have taken up Palantir’s services in the fourth-quarter and the private enterprise business has seen a consistent revenue acceleration last year. More clients have signed on to Palantir’s software platform throughout the year and the company expanded its client base materially in FY 2021. Palantir added 64 clients to its software platform last year which calculates to an average net addition of 21 new paying clients per quarter. However, Palantir’s customer acquisition also accelerated in every single quarter in 2021, showing real momentum that has been reflected in Palantir’s significant revenue and free cash flow ramp.

What is also making a difference for Palantir besides a growing commercial client book is growth in average revenue per customer. The average top twenty customer spend $41M on Palantir’s services in the third-quarter which is a 35% increase over the year-earlier period. I estimate that Palantir, due to strong customer acquisition in Q4'21, will have grown this figure to $43M by year-end 2021.

In the third-quarter, Palantir’s commercial customer count increased a massive 46%, quarter over quarter, as more customers adopted Palantir’s Foundry for Builders. Palantir reported accelerating commercial revenue growthe very single quarter in FY 2021 and could close in on 40% commercial revenue growth, year over year, in the fourth-quarter. This momentum in the private enterprise market strongly raises the possibility of a material free cash flow outperformance for FY 2021.

Palantir

The most important financial figure Palantir is going to report next week will be free cash flow. If I had to pinpoint one specific financial number that could make or break Palantir’s future, it would be this one.

What investors should remember is that Palantir a year ago expected FY 2021 to only be a free cash flow breakeven year. The firm started to materially increase its free cash flow guidance in the first-quarter 2021. Palantir guided for at least $400M in free cash flow for FY 2021, but the company already secured 80% of its low-case free cash flow guidance by the end of Q3’21. Third-quarter free cash flow was $119M, showing 139% quarter over quarter growth. At the same time, the free cash flow margin improved from 13% to 30%, meaning revenue to free cash flow conversion improved dramatically in the second half of the year. Palantir would therefore only have to report $80M in Q4'21 free cash flow to meet its full-year FCF guidance, which is something Palantir should easily be able to do. I estimate that Palantir could report FY 2021 free cash flow of up to $460M based off of growing average revenue per customer, rising Foundry for Builders adoption, a higher commercial customer count and a free cash flow margin of 30%.

The most interesting part of Palantir’s earnings card next week, however, will be the free cash flow guidance for FY 2022. I believe this guidance especially has the potential to power Palantir’s shares higher.

Because of the momentum in Palantir’s business, I am raising my revenue estimate for FY 2022 to $2.13B, 5% above my last estimate of $2.03B. Assuming a 35% free cash flow margin, Palantir could generate $745M in free cash flow in FY 2022, indicating 86% year over year growth potential (calculated based off of Palantir’s full-year FCF guidance of $400M). Free cash flow, however, could be even better. Palantir started a new business called Foundry for Crypto lately, which is an entirely new segment that is targeting the rapidly evolving market for digital currencies. Palantir started the business in 2021 and is going to roll out services at scale in 2022. If this business gets a good start, it wouldn’t take much for Palantir to double its free cash flow, year over year, in FY 2022.

Palantir is cheap

Palantir’s earnings card for FY 2021 and guidance for FY 2022 will have an impact on estimates. Currently, revenue estimates are anchored at around $2.0B for FY 2022. If Palantir’s guidance calls for more than 30% revenue growth this year- which I believe is very likely- revenue predictions will be refreshed and shares of Palantir will have a lower sales multiplier factor.

Data by YCharts

Risks with Palantir

Slowing revenue and free cash flow growth, weaker free cash flow and operating margins, a disappointing FCF guidance for FY 2022 are all risks for Palantir. The canary in the coal mine is likely slowing growth in the private enterprise business, because this is what supports Palantir's revenue and free cash flow gains right now.

Final thoughts

I believe Palantir is going to crush it next week. Specifically, I expect that Palantir will outperform its own guidance regarding Q4’21 and full-year revenues and free cash flow. Average revenue per customer should also continue to grow. The free cash flow guidance for FY 2022, however, could be a real beauty considering Palantir’s revenue acceleration in the private enterprise business and stronger free cash flow (margins) in the second half of the year. If FY 2022 revenue and FCF guidance is strong- which I believe it will be- Palantir is up for a major revaluation in the stock market!

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Palantir Is Set To Beat Free Cash Flow Expectations, Here's Why
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nPalantir Is Set To Beat Free Cash Flow Expectations, Here's Why\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-10 13:55 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryPalantir is expected to submit its earnings card on Thursday, February 17, 2022.Momentum in the private enterprise business could see Palantir materially beat its own guidance for FY 2021.FY ...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"PLTR":"Palantir Technologies Inc."},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4485431-palantir-q4-earnings-preview-poised-beat-expectations","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1115712053","content_text":"SummaryPalantir is expected to submit its earnings card on Thursday, February 17, 2022.Momentum in the private enterprise business could see Palantir materially beat its own guidance for FY 2021.FY 2022 revenue and free cash flow guidance could be very strong and result in a new upleg for Palantir's beaten-down shares.NicoElNino/iStock via Getty ImagesShares of Palantir (PLTR) dropped into a down-trend in November and are now trading near 1-year lows.
