Some people shouted \"increase positions\", others said \"waiting for the buying signal to appear\", and others used Graham's investment strategy to analyze Ali's financial situation, thinking that \"the current stock price may be a once-in-ten-year opportunity.\"

Moreover, inJD.comAfter the disclosure of the semi-annual report, the ARK Fund founded by \"Sister Wood\" Katherine Wood, known as the \"female version of Buffett\", and its space technology-themed ETF (ARKX) bought more than 160,000 shares on August 23, local time. JD.com ADR, totaling about 12 million US dollars. It is worth noting that \"Sister Wood\" revealed in an interview with the media at the end of July that she had almost cleared the Chinese concept stocks. Now, her attitude towards Chinese concept stocks has changed in a short period of time.

At a time when the stock prices of Chinese concept stock Internet companies have been falling continuously recently, a large number of overseas retail investors and even institutional investors have believed that Alibaba,TencentThe company's stock price is \"extremely attractive\" and has started bargain-hunting operations. Some institutions have even issued new funds specifically to invest in the A-share or Hong Kong stock market.

Has the \"golden pit\" of Chinese concept stocks arrived? In the past week, the stock prices of Chinese concept stocks listed in the United States rose by nearly 8% on average, significantly outperforming the A-share stock index during the same period, and many star companies rose by more than 20%. Some institutional investors said frankly: \"For the first time in several months, I am very inclined to become a long-term investor in Chinese technology stocks.\"

Chinese concept stocks recover

Since the beginning of this year, affected by factors such as hedge fund liquidation and anti-monopoly, the life of Chinese concept stocks listed in the United States has not been easy. The stock prices of many star companies have continued to weaken and even suffered a halved cut. According to statistics from brokerage Chinese reporters, among the 285 Chinese concept stocks included in the statistics, the largest average decline year-to-date is about 58.5%.New Oriental、High RoadThe largest declines in the group's stock prices were 99% and 98.4% respectively, and the stock prices of 15 companies fell by more than 90%.

However, as the market's interpretation of the policy gradually became optimistic, and some Internet companies disclosed relatively optimistic semi-annual reports, Chinese concept stocks showed a collective recovery last week, with 233 stocks rising during the week, accounting for more than 80%, with an average increase of 7.86%. In terms of individual stocks, TuSimple rose by more than 47% this week, and Wuxin Technology and Huanju both rose by more than 30%.Pinduoduo, JD.com both rose more than 20%.

JD.com previously disclosed performance data for the first half of the year, showing that the company's revenue in the first half of the year was 456.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32%, and the profit attributable to shareholders was 4.411 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 75%. Among them, the revenue in the second quarter was 253.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.2%, higher than Bloomberg's previous expectation of 247.7 billion yuan; The net profit attributable to shareholders was 794 million yuan, lower than Bloomberg's expectation of 2.325 billion yuan, mainly due to the year-on-year increase of 1.4 billion yuan in equity incentive expenses. After the semi-annual report was released, U.S. stocks rose 14.44% that day, and stocks of the same series also experienced considerable gains. on that dayJD HealthSoared 14.50%;JD LogisticsIt rose 7.21%.

Ark invest, a well-known American investment institution, bought JD.com's shares after its results were released. According to the data, Ark's Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF (symbol ARKQ) bought JD.com's American depositary receipts on August 23, totaling About $12 million. Catherine Wood, founder of the institution, revealed that the fund has sorted out Chinese enterprises and is currently integrating positions in department stores, logistics and manufacturing companies. \"Logistics is an important part of JD.COM's business.\"

Catherine Wood said in an interview with Bloomberg on August 24th that her view on China is optimistic, not pessimistic: \"In the long run, I am not pessimistic about China. I think it is a very entrepreneurial society. The Chinese government is formulating more rules and regulations, but I don't think it wants to stop growth and progress.\"

Recently, foreign-funded institutions have made a lot of \"bargain-hunting\"

Jackson Wong, director of asset management at Amber Hill Capital Ltd, said: \"We are seeing a lot of bargain hunting for Chinese concept stocks in the market, including big buying of Tencent and Alibaba.\"

Vanda Research said in a report last Wednesday that the recent \"snap-up\" of Alibaba by U.S. retail investors made it the most purchased stock in the U.S. market last Monday, which also led to the net purchase of depositary receipts (ADR) of Chinese companies in the United States exceeded $400 million.

Andy Maynard, a trader at China Renaissance, said: \"For the first time in months, I am very inclined to become a long-term investor in Chinese technology stocks.\"

Additionally, some investors took the opportunity to buy during the sell-off. Hugh Young, a veteran fund manager at Aberdeen Standard Investments, said earlier this month that his company has started buying Tencent and left most of its other tech stock positions unchanged.

William Blair Investment Management, an investment firm that manages more than $73 billion in total, recently launched a mutual fund to invest in the Chinese market. It is understood that the fund will be jointly managed by Casey Preyss and Vivian Lin Thurston of the company's global equity team, and will invest at least 80% of its assets in A shares, Hong Kong stocks, ADRs, GDRs, etc. Said Robert Duwa, a partner at the firm. \"China has been an integral part of our global equity allocation since the mid-1990s.\"

It can be found in the second quarter report of Bridgewater Fund that as of the end of the second quarter, the fund held shares in at least 37 Chinese companies, with a total market value of approximately US $1.2 billion, and increased its holdings of 13 companies in the second quarter, including Wuxin Technology,Bilibili、Tencent MusicEtc. As of June 30, Alibaba, Pinduoduo, JD.com,NioAndBaiduRanked in the top five with a total market capitalization of $719 million. Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Fund, recently wrote in LinkedIn that the direction of China's policy action has never changed: that is, to support the rapid and stable development of the capital market, entrepreneurship and opening-up investment.

Measuring Alibaba by Graham's Investment Strategy

In the famous Reddit forum, a gathering place for retail investors in the United States, the recent discussion about Alibaba's stock has become more and more lively. Some investors bluntly said that the current company's stock price is \"\" extremely attractive \"\".

Another Graham \"believer\" posted that there are only a handful of stocks in the market that meet the Graham/defensive investor criteria. \"(Graham's investment strategy) has been working for the past 20 to 30 years. Therefore, for many of us, Alibaba's current stock price may be a once-in-a-decade opportunity.\"

Interestingly, TRG Investments, an investor company located in Richmond, USA, \"fully positioned\" Alibaba's US stock ADR in its asset management portfolio as of the second quarter, holding 1.1565 million shares, or about 184 million US dollars.

Victor Dergunov, an analyst at Seeking Alpha website, gave quite optimistic expectations for Ali's stock price: Alibaba's profit next year is expected to be US $11.80 per share. Even if the stock price is only a net income multiple of 20 times, the stock price will reach US $236. This is equivalent to a return of about 40% in the next year and a half.

He said that under a more optimistic scenario, if Alibaba is valued at 22 times by the end of the next fiscal year, the stock price will have the potential to increase by 55% to around $260 at present. \"Even so, it would still be a very bargain compared to the valuation of U.S. tech stocks.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Many stocks soared by more than 20% in a week!

A delay in production increases by the OPEC+ group of oil producing nations has underlined the recent price push, but the prospect of a continuing economic recovery for the U.S. and other industrialized nations points to an opportunity for investors.\nBelow is a list of 20 energy stocks favored by Wall Street analysts, with price targets implying upside of up to 39%.\nOil stocks are running behind oil prices\nThese charts compare the percentage movement for continuous forward-month contracts for West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil to total returns for the energy sector of the S&P Composite 1500 index :\nFirst, year-to-date moves through 7:25 a.m. ET on July 6:\nEven with dividends reinvested, the energy sector of the S&P 1500 has lagged the price action for oil. (The S&P Composite 1500 index is made up of the S&P 500 SPX (#phrase-company?ref=COMPANY%7CSPX;onlineSignificance=passing-mention), the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index MID (#phrase-company?ref=COMPANY%7CMID;onlineSignificance=passing-mention) and the S&P Small Cap 600 Index SML (#phrase-company?ref=COMPANY%7CSML;onlineSignificance=passing-mention).)\nNow look at the one-year chart:\nThere's an argument to be made that oil stocks are way behind the recent price action. West Texas Crude Oil for August delivery was trading above $76 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange early on July 6. For U.S. shale oil producers, there's a critical relationship between the spot price and their production break-even prices for new wells, which ranged between $46 and $58 a barrel according to a survey conducted in March by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. (You can see that report here\nIt's easy to understand that when West Texas Crude was trading for about $48.50 at the end of 2020, many investors remained shy of oil producers and related stocks.\nWall Street's favorite stocks of oil producers and related companies\nTo screen for U.S.-listed oil stocks, we began with the S&P 1500, in part because the S&P 500 includes only 22 stocks. Some stocks dropped out of the large-cap benchmark index because their market values declined significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, but more broadly they have been suffering since oil prices peaked in 2014.\nThere are 64 stocks in the S&P 1500. We then added the 17 pipeline limited partnerships held by the Alerian MLP ETF, which aren't included in the S&P indexes. The pipelines are generally considered income plays, but there are some tax complications that should be part of your research before considering them for investment.\nAmong the screen of 81 energy stocks, 36 have majority \"buy\" or equivalent ratings among a group of at least five analysts working for brokerage firms, according to data provided by FactSet.
