Buffett had second thoughts on investing in a company with a homeland targeted by China, but most technology companies face similar risks. My investment thesis remains ultra-bullish on the chip manufacturing stock, as the investment firm selling out has pressured the shares.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/07d4d160b0d6af52292c3cccbdeee46c\" alt=\"Source: Finviz\" title=\"Source: Finviz\" tg-width=\"991\" tg-height=\"422\"/><span>Source: Finviz</span></p><h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Buffett Unloads All Shares</h2><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Back in February, Berkshire Hathaway had mostly unloaded a $4.1 billion position in TSMC shares. In several interviews since, Buffett was clear the investment firm had second thoughts on the new investment due to geopolitical concerns with China possibly invading Taiwan.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Berkshire has a cash balance of $130 billion, so the company has limited opportunities to invest in firms where a $10+ billion position doesn&#39;t move the needle of the stock. As an example, Buffett has been aggressively purchasing shares in <strong>Occidental Petroleum</strong> (OXY), but Berkshire already owns nearly 25% of the firm and has only $12 billion more to invest to reach a 50% threshold.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">TSMC is worth more than $415 billion now, and Buffett could&#39;ve invested over $40 billion before causing any ripple in the stock by reaching 10% ownership. The tech giant has up to 95% of production in the Communist country and is spending aggressively to move to more stable areas like India, with <strong>Hon Hai Precision</strong> (OTCPK:HNHPF) investing $500 million now to boost production in that country.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">TSMC is making similar moves with a massive fab being built in Arizona along with another fab being built in Japan. Ultimately, though, both TSMC and Apple will rely heavily on Taiwan and China for both production and sales for the decade ahead.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">In general, an investor probably doesn&#39;t want multiple top investments focused on the tech sector reliant on chips and products produced in the Taiwan/China region, but the argument here is that TSMC is the better investment. On the other hand, Apple is forecast to struggle to reach 10% growth in the years ahead.</p><h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">AI Boom</h2><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The booming demand for AI chips should only ramp up the demand for TSMC in the years ahead. The company has the leading-edge chip manufacturing technology and AI chip demand for data centers will far outgrow the demand for new devices like PCs and smartphones. Analysts are starting to ramp up chip sales for prime customers <strong>Nvidia</strong> (NVDA) in a sign of how AI demand will start flowing to TSMC.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Chip companies from <strong>AMD</strong> (AMD) to <strong>Intel</strong> (INTC) have promoted massive market growth opportunities in the years ahead. Some of these forecasts even came out before the big AI boom in the last six months from the generative AI chat revolution going on with the release of ChatGPT by Open AI.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the case of a primary customer, AMD promotes an enormous $300 billion chip TAM in the next five years. The enormous TAM has probably grown with data center and possibly embedded demand set to soar along with the growing opportunity in automotive.</p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">TSMC is set to remain the leader in leading-edge chip manufacturing, making the stock a prime buy on the current weakness. Wall Street pros see revenue slipping 11% for the current holiday quarter, as well as the entire fiscal 2023 year that ends in January. Profitability should take a bigger hit. If you&#39;re buying Best Buy for that chunky 4.9% yield, that&#39;s a dicey proposition when its bottom line is going the wrong way.</p><p>Rising costs and the inability of a brick-and-mortar chain to compete on price with bare-boned online merchants are making life hard for Best Buy, again. Now we have a potentially dimming economy setting back demand for consumer electronics.</p><p>To be fair, Best Buy&#39;s renaissance wasn&#39;t that exciting. It&#39;s a China-based company at a time when most investors outside of the country are steering clear of the market.</p><p>Let&#39;s also not forget that Luckin Coffee is a stock that -- like its hot java -- already burned investors before. After years of losses, it was profitable in 2021. Revenue continued to grow.</p><p>However, Luckin Coffee&#39;s top-line gains have decelerated for four consecutive quarters. It also posted a loss in its previous quarter. It&#39;s hard to get excited about Luckin Coffee. It may seem like a low-priced indulgence, but it&#39;s a luxury that consumers will avoid if they need to save their money for more-pressing expenses.</p><h2><b>3. Apple</b></h2><p>Let&#39;s wrap-up this-week&#39;s list by picking on the country&#39;s most valuable company by market cap. I&#39;m a longtime fan and investor in Apple, but I can see why it&#39;s a scary stock to hold heading into this particular holiday shopping season. The economy is on iffy footing, credit card debit is rising, and Apple isn&#39;t going to be immune from consumers steering clear of big-ticket purchases this season.</p><p>Apple held up well when most tech stocks got slammed earlier this year, but the class act of Cupertino is finally proving mortal. It doesn&#39;t help that its annual refresh of popular products wasn&#39;t overly impressive. With money already tight, it&#39;s easy to see consumers ride this year out and see what Apple springs on us in 2023.</p><p>Analysts aren&#39;t excited. They see revenue and earnings per share rising a mere 3% and 2%, respectively, for the new fiscal year.</p><p>It&#39;s going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments.
