Its mixed-reality headset could be the device that takes the metaverse concept and runs with it.With China’s lockdowns scheduled to lift for summer and a VR/AR headset that could be less than a year from launch, I remain bullish on Apple stock.VR/AR Headset Could Have a Sizeable Impact on Apple StockApple’s VR/AR headset went from an exciting rumor to something that could help take the stock to the next level. Undoubtedly, Apple is unlikely to demo something to its board of directors until it has a relatively-polished product on its hands.With the recent trademarking of “reality OS,” Apple’s next game-changing device feels as close as ever. Indeed, it’s an exciting time to be an Apple investor, with the stock down around 17% from its all-time high, given how material the mixed-reality headset could be.Even if the VR/AR headset has entered its advanced stages, it’s difficult to forecast when Apple will pull the curtain on its latest innovation.The company’s annual WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) is just a few days away. Though the conference unveils many cutting-edge innovations, it’s unlikely that the VR/AR headset will be unveiled at such an event. The device could land in the back half of 2022. Further, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company needs time to add more polish.Should Meta be Scared as Apple Looks to Reinvent the VR/AR Headset?Currently, Meta is one of the go-to metaverse plays for investors. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has not shied away from its plans and intentions. Its Oculus Quest and Cambria headsets aim to be one of the top devices in the VR/AR headset market. However, there are many other challengers already, including HTC and Valve. Nonetheless, it’s arguable that Meta has the edge, given its deep pockets and renewed focus.Still, it’s tough to get excited about Meta and the current state of its metaverse lineup. Meta’s VR-based social platform Horizon Worlds recently eclipsed 300,000 users, with impressive growth since its launch.As Apple aims to reinvent the VR and AR experience, with its more than 1 billion active iPhone users, it could easily take away the shine from Meta.For now, the last thing Apple CEO Tim Cook should do is rush his efforts, as Zuckerberg did. Only when the device and software are ready to impress will Cook give the green light for launch.Wall Street’s TakeTurning to Wall Street, AAPL stock comes in as a Strong Buy. Out of 27 analyst ratings, there are 21 Buys and six Hold recommendations.The average Apple price target is $186.61 implying an upside potential of 23.4%. Analyst price targets range from a low of $160.00 per share to a high of $210.00 per share.The Bottom Line on Apple StockAfter a steep valuation reset, Apple stock trades at 24.6 times trailing earnings. While macro headwinds and Musk&#39;s dramatic potential takeover of <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWTR\">Twitter</a></b> surely haven&#39;t helped Tesla, the EV giant&#39;s business continues to make headway in a grand fashion.</p><p>On that note, let&#39;s discuss two reasons to consider buying Tesla stock today and one justification for holding back.</p><h2>Buy: Business is booming</h2><p>In a quarter rife with macroeconomic challenges and COVID-related shutdowns in its Shanghai factory, Tesla delivered big for its shareholders. The company raked in total sales of $18.8 billion, growing 81% year over year and beating Wall Street estimates by 5%. Likewise, earnings per share (EPS) finished at $3.22, climbing 246% and smashing consensus forecasts by a whopping 42%. The EV commander produced 305,407 vehicles and completed 310,048 deliveries, adding to the already-strong quarter with respective increases of 69% and 68%.</p><p>Per management&#39;s guidance, investors can expect the company to achieve 50% average annual growth in vehicle deliveries over a multi-year time horizon. For the full fiscal year 2022, Wall Street analysts are projecting the company&#39;s top line to surge 61% year over year to $86.3 billion and EPS to mount 81%, reaching $12.31. Given that Tesla&#39;s factories have been operating below capacity for several quarters and will continue to do so throughout 2022, the company&#39;s growth amid such setbacks is nothing short of remarkable. Its robust balance sheet reveals a 660% year-over-year increase in free cash flow generation, rising to $2.2 billion in the first quarter of 2022 from $293 million in the year-ago period.  All told, the EV juggernaut is in an advantageous position to expand its operations in the years to follow.</p><h2>Buy: Massive industry potential</h2><p>Tesla brings a lot of mainstream attention to the EV market, but don&#39;t be fooled: The industry is still in its early innings. As of today, there are more than 10 million electric vehicles on the road, but that represents just 1% of global car stock. By 2030, it&#39;s projected that there will be 300 million electric cars on the road, a 2,900% upsurge from existing levels. It&#39;s also expected that EVs will account for 60% of new car sales by then, a drastic increase from 5% in 2020.</p><p>On a broader scale, the global EV market is set to register a compound annual growth rate of 25% through 2030, indicating a market size of nearly $1 trillion by that time. While competition is heating up tremendously, Tesla is well-positioned to remain a winner in the years to come. In 2021, the company was responsible for almost 70% of registered EVs in the U.S., and it reigns over nearly 15% of the global EV market. In other words, it&#39;s not Tesla that investors should worry about when considering increased competition in the industry.</p><h2>Stay away: Steep valuation</h2><p>At face value, Tesla&#39;s valuation appears outrageous. The stock is trading at 95.8 times earnings today, indicating a lofty valuation in and of itself. Comparing the EV giant&#39;s price-to-earnings multiple to that of other automobile manufacturers paints an even clearer picture.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3fdf1619fbf744a4939db2ea2d91e9e9\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"483\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/>TSLA PE Ratio data by YCharts</p><p>Competitors <b>Ford</b>, <b>General Motors</b>, and <b>Toyota</b> carry price-to-earnings multiples of 4.5, 6, and 8.5, respectively, serving steep discounts compared to their EV peer. Whether Tesla warrants a premium valuation is a classic debate; however, there&#39;s no denying that the stock is richly priced today.</p><h2>Should you buy Tesla?</h2><p>Tesla is a great company, but its latest pullback has grabbed my attention. That said, it&#39;s still trading at a steep valuation and would need to suffer a far greater correction to be considered cheap. The EV commander produced 305,407 vehicles and completed 310,048 deliveries, adding to the already-strong quarter with respective increases of 69% and 68%.Per management's guidance, investors can expect the company to achieve 50% average annual growth in vehicle deliveries over a multi-year time horizon. For the full fiscal year 2022, Wall Street analysts are projecting the company's top line to surge 61% year over year to $86.3 billion and EPS to mount 81%, reaching $12.31. Given that Tesla's factories have been operating below capacity for several quarters and will continue to do so throughout 2022, the company's growth amid such setbacks is nothing short of remarkable. Its robust balance sheet reveals a 660% year-over-year increase in free cash flow generation, rising to $2.2 billion in the first quarter of 2022 from $293 million in the year-ago period.  All told, the EV juggernaut is in an advantageous position to expand its operations in the years to follow.Buy: Massive industry potentialTesla brings a lot of mainstream attention to the EV market, but don't be fooled: The industry is still in its early innings. As of today, there are more than 10 million electric vehicles on the road, but that represents just 1% of global car stock. By 2030, it's projected that there will be 300 million electric cars on the road, a 2,900% upsurge from existing levels. It's also expected that EVs will account for 60% of new car sales by then, a drastic increase from 5% in 2020.On a broader scale, the global EV market is set to register a compound annual growth rate of 25% through 2030, indicating a market size of nearly $1 trillion by that time. While competition is heating up tremendously, Tesla is well-positioned to remain a winner in the years to come. In 2021, the company was responsible for almost 70% of registered EVs in the U.S., and it reigns over nearly 15% of the global EV market. Nonetheless, please do not buy the dip as we expect the stock to retrace in the next few weeks, as the market grapples with the macro pessimism and crypto crash.</p><p><b>Why Did NVDA Fall From Grace?</b></p><p><b>NVDA Revenue, Net Income, and Gross Margin</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7c8b7f527622943487f298f58aec0a8f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"396\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Pre-pandemic, NVDA had grown its revenue and net income at a steady CAGR of 16.44% and 18.9%. It obviously grew exponentially in the past two years, given the massive demand for personal devices due to the increased remote work/ study/ entertainment options during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, NVDA grew its revenues at a tremendous CAGR of 57.05%, while its net income rose even faster at a CAGR of 86.94%. The company also steadily improved its gross margins from 58.8% in FY2017 to 64.9% in FY2022.</p><p><b>NVDA 5Y Stock Price</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f98282f6ea46ae8ad6b84c285f70dc\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"229\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>As a result, it is evident that NVDA investors had benefited from its stellar growth, given that the stock had risen by 580% in the past two years, before the drastic moderation that occurred in late 2021.</p><p><b>NVDA 5Y EV/Revenue and P/E Valuations</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bb56f00646af22e85bd8a43914c1b14a\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"228\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>However, we believe that the market correction is expected, given that NVDA was trading at ridiculous valuations at its peak, with EV/NTM Revenue of 28x and NTM P/E of 72.98x. That is way higher than Intel&#39;s (INTC) valuation of EV/NTM Revenue of 4.19x and NTM P/E of 15.47x in the past three years, and even AMD (AMD) at 10.59x and 65.39x, respectively. In hindsight, it is evident that NVDA has been highly (maybe over) valued, given its exposure to multiple market segments, such as AI technology, autonomous EVs, cloud computing servers, cryptocurrency, and metaverse, amongst others.</p><p>Nonetheless, we may also see a short-term impact, given Meta&#39;s (FB) slowing investments in the Reality Labs ( metaverse),reduced demand for GPUs from the crypto mining, and impacted auto production outputs from China&#39;s Zero Covid Policy. As an investor myself, I believe that high-growth tech companies, such as NVDA, should build up their future capabilities and product innovations, to keep their advantage in the highly competitive semiconductor industry moving forward. Nonetheless, the risks are also inherent that many companies may slow down their Capex investments in the next few quarters, given the impending recession and rising interest rates. Consequently, NVDA may also reduce its R&amp;D expenses for the short term, given the potential deceleration in revenue growth.</p><p><b>NVDA Projected Revenue and Net Income</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d2badc1948a2e2ab65b118973f20c6a4\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"395\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>S&amp;P Capital IQ</span></p><p>Over the next three years, NVDA is expected to report impressive revenue and net income growth at a CAGR of 18.99% and 27.19%, respectively. For FY2023, consensus estimates that the company will report revenues of $34.77B and a net income of $14.39B, representing remarkable YoY growth of 29.2% and 47.5%, respectively.</p><p>Investors will be looking closely at NVDA&#39;s FQ1&#39;23 performance, in which it had guided for revenues of $8.1B and gross margins of 65.2%. Assuming that the company successfully smashed its own and consensus estimates of $8.09B, we can be sure of a short-term recovery. However, it is also important to note that NVDA is expected to record a one-time write-off worth $1.36B for the quarter, due to the collapse of the ARM acquisition. In addition, given the quarter&#39;s exposure to the prolonged lockdowns in China, NVDA&#39;s revenue may also be impacted negatively. As a result, we expect a mixed FQ1&#39;23 performance, potentially leading to a further decline in its stock performance. We shall see.</p><p><b>So, Is NVDA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?</b></p><p>NVDA is currently trading at an EV/NTM Revenue of 11.93x, and NTM P/E of 30x, lower than its 5Y mean of 13.34x and 39.91x, respectively. The stock is also trading at $171.24 on 19 May 2022, down 50% from 52 weeks high of $346.47. Given the recent market pessimism, there is a likelihood that the stock may retrace further below its 52 weeks low of $135.43 in the next few days, before recovering upon a positive catalyst, namely its FQ1&#39;23 earnings call on 25 May 2022.</p><p>Even then, the NVDA stock could potentially remain stagnant post-earnings, similar to its peer, AMD. The latter had reported stellar FQ1&#39;22 earnings, while also raising its FY2022 guidance. In response, the stock rose by 9% from $91.13 to $99.42 on 3 May 2022, before drifting sideways for the next two weeks to reach $96.67 on 19 May 2022. We can be sure that if such an upbeat earnings call had occurred during the heights of the pandemic, AMD would have seen a more pronounced growth in valuation and stock price, similar to the 25% growth after FQ3&#39;21 earnings and 15% growth after FQ2&#39;21 earnings. As a result, interested tech investors must be aware that we are in the midst of maximum pain, significantly worsened by the cryptocurrency winter, the ongoing Ukraine war, and China&#39;s Zero Covid Policy.</p><p>Given the uncertainties and reasons listed above, we may expect softer FQ2&#39;23 guidance from NVDA&#39;s management as well. Though the stock may seem an attractive buy at its current &#34;undervaluation,&#34; given its growth potential and promising pipeline, we would encourage prudence for now.
