      Their prime brokers aka big banks will have to foot the bills. Banks go insolvent, DTC will have to foot the bills. DTC go burst, Feds will need to turn on money printer.

      And SHORTS MUST COVER. From the looks of things (condition of the market, banks in the US, confidence of foreign investors/govt) they cant keep this go on forever. No halting can't possibly stop this.
