Top movers | BB jumped 15% on safe radar services; SNDL shares catch up it peers

1. $BlackBerry(BB)$ +14.47%: announce intrinsically safe radar devices for hazardous materials carriers

BlackBerry's stock is rising due to the company's announcement of a new series of BlackBerry Radar devices, specifically designed for hazardous materials carriers.

These devices are certified as 'Intrinsically Safe,' including the highest safety level, C1/D1, for transporting hazardous goods. This certification is crucial for companies that transport materials such as fuel, chemicals, and agricultural products.

The release of these devices coincides with increased regulatory scrutiny in the U.S. rail industry, with the Association of American Railroads (AAR) mandating that telematics device installations on Class 1 railroads must meet safety standards by January 1, 2024.

2. $SNDL Inc.(SNDL)$ +11.79% amid cannabis stocks surge and marijuana reclassification news

Cannabis stocks have risen over the past week on news that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed reclassifying marijuana to a lower-risk drug category.

Its peers like $Tilray Inc.(TLRY)$ , $Cronos Group Inc.(CRON)$ already surged around 40% in the past three weeks.

SNDL, a Canadian company, went from a struggling cannabis producer to a leading consumer goods and cannabis investment firm in under three years. This transformation was mainly due to two key acquisitions: Alcanna in 2022 and The Valens Company in 2023.

With Alcanna, SNDL gained access to Canada's largest private alcohol retail network, while the Valens deal expanded their cannabis product offerings and operational efficiency.

Thanks to these deals, SNDL is on course to become profitable by 2024, which is unusual in the competitive Canadian cannabis sector.

3. $Qualcomm(QCOM)$ +3.90%: extends 5G modem supply agreement with apple until 2026

QCOM announced it will continue to supply 5G modems for Apple’s smartphones through 2026.

Wall Street analysts and Qualcomm officials had previously thought Apple would produce and use its own 5G modem starting in 2024. Apple is widely expected to unveil new iPhones Tuesday, which will use Qualcomm modems.

Apple has been trying to develop its own chips to get rid of its dependence on Qualcomm. But its plan has been delayed again.

It should be noted that because of worries about over-reliance on the mobile phone business, Qualcomm's prospects are far less attractive to investors than other semiconductor giants.
