Retail usually sells at the open and the institutions come in to buy the dip and accumulate throughout the day.
One thing you have to remember, once an institution has taken a position in a stock it doesn’t mean they’ll stop buying completely. As investor funds keep flowing in they keep adding more shares at particular levels, this is why you see stocks with strong institutional backing bouncing off 21DMA and 50DMA powerfully.
This weak opening and strong closing is also a characteristic of bull markets.
