Options is addictive because it seems easy to earn some premium every week by selling call & put options. Selling options are akin to running machine to me where it generates income from the machine. Buying shares is like investing in machines. That's my mindset.
Trading options also allow for positive cash flow where your option is out of money and close to expiry, you cam rollover to get positive cash flow while waiting for the options to expire.
Synthetic call also give excellent leverage. It is very useful during market beaten down.
Options provide more flexibility & ways you can trade shares.
