In the face of the menacing arrival of electric vehicles, the auto industry outside the mainland is unlikely to be immune for long. Although the price of electric vehicles in the United States has continued to fall, the average price of US$52,314 per vehicle in February this year is far higher than the price of 100,000 to 150,000 yuan per vehicle in China. Even with the 27.5% tariff and the transportation cost of $1,000 per vehicle, continental cars are far more cost-effective than European and American products, which is one of the reasons why mainland cars are likely to capture 25% of the European electric vehicle market this year.
