Ford (NYSE:F) recalls over 456,000 vehicles due to loss of drive power risk

Ford (NYSE:F) is initiating a recall for more than 456,000 of its Bronco Sport and Maverick models across the United States due to a serious battery detection flaw that might lead to a loss of drive power, potentially increasing the risk of crashes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released documents indicating that the body and power train control modules in these vehicles may not properly detect changes in battery charge levels.

A failure to recognize a low battery condition can result in sudden vehicle stalling or an inability to restart the vehicle, alongside disabling other electric features, such as hazard lights.

The recall affects approximately 403,000 Bronco Sports from model years 2021 to 2024, and over 53,000 Mavericks from model years 2022 to 2023.

The company says Ford dealers will recalibrate the body and power train control modules for free to fix the issue.

As Ford prepares to implement these corrections, the total number of reported incidents related to this issue remains under review.

To date, Ford has confirmed 917 warranty claims, 11 field reports, and 54 customer complaints connected to this defect, which have also resulted in two property damage claims and three unverified reports of fires, although no injuries have been reported.

This recall is one of several recent safety concerns for Ford, following last week's recall of nearly 43,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to potential fire risks from fuel leaks — an issue still under federal investigation due to concerns about the adequacy of the proposed fixes.
